SoftBank to Acquire ABB’s Robotics Business for $5.4B

SoftBank Group has announced it will acquire ABB’s robotics division for approximately $5.4 billion, aiming to strengthen its position in AI robotics and accelerate its broader push toward artificial superintelligence.

According to a news release, ABB’s robotics unit, known for its global reach and reliability, will complement SoftBank’s existing portfolio of robotics and AI investments, including SoftBank Robotics, Berkshire Grey, AutoStore, Agile Robots and Skild AI. The acquisition is expected to enhance research and development, expand market presence and speed up innovation across industrial and service robotics.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval in the European Union, China and the United States, and is expected to close between mid and late 2026.
