Australia is leading the charge in transitioning to renewable energy. Not only does the country generate green energy for its residents, but it also exports it to other countries where large-scale power generation is limited. Below are some of the top renewable energy companies in Australia powering change.

Ohme makes an EV battery charger that it says lets users get more charge and charge during less-expensive times of the day. It can customize the charger and installs them, too. Ohme is based in Sydney.

 

Clean Hydrogen Technologies makes turquoise hydrogen, which is produced by breaking down natural gas into hydrogen gas and solid carbon. The hydrogen can be used to make products such as fertilizer and the carbon goes into the manufacture of batteries and solar panels. Clean Hydrogen Technologies is building plants in India and the United States. The company is based in Sydney.

 

Brighte is an Australian greentech company helping households transition to renewable energy. Its site sells a host of fully electric products like electric stove tops, LED lighting and rooftop solar panels. It aims to help residents feel more informed about renewable energy and makes it more attainable by providing several financing options.

 

Allume Energy makes SolShare, a solar-panel system that allows multiple apartments in one building to access solar energy. SolShare uses a “sharing algorithm” to distribute the power evenly among apartments and common spaces. Allume says SolShare can trim both electric bills and grid electricity by 40 percent. Allume is headquartered in Melbourne and also has offices in the United States and the United Kingdom.

 

Elecsome says it is the first company in Australia to upcycle old solar panels. The panels are turned into SolarCrete, a pre-mix concrete used in construction and for driveways, curbs and other projects that call for concrete. Elecsome says its factory can process about 1 million panels per year. Elecsome is based in Keysborough.

ACEN Australia creates and operates solar, wind and energy-storage products that help power homes and businesses with clean energy. Snowy Hydro, founded in 1949, aims to help Australia usher in the era of renewable energy. Its Snowy 2.0 project, which it says is the biggest renewable energy project in Australia, will connect two existing dams to a new underground power station to produce on-demand hydroelectric power. Okra Solar makes products that deliver electricity to people who are living off the grid, and it says there are 700 million such people worldwide. Okra Solar is based in Sydney.

 

Canadian Solar has four offices and five warehouses in Australia; the company says it provides power to 172,000 Australian homes each year. Shell Energy Australia offers a product called RECO, or Renewable Energy Contracting Options, that helps Shell customers buy renewable energy and thus reach their goals for sustainability. The company is striving for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Shell Energy Australia is based in Brisbane.

 

Solar Analytics helps solar customers find the best energy plan, optimize energy use, make sure their panels are working properly and keep track of how much they are saving with a patented system that gathers and analyzes solar data. Customers can choose from three versions — Wattwatcher, CATCH Control or Inverter — depending on what type of solar system they use. Solar Analytics is based in Glen Innes in New South Wales.

 

Sundrive Solar develops high-efficiency solar cells for PV panels. Hysata makes electrolyzers, which produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions than grey hydrogen, which is a product of fossil fuels. In late 2024, Hysata and POSCO, a  steelmaking company, entered into a joint venture agreement that will speed up the development and deployment of Hysata’s electrolysers. Origin Energy, one of Australia’s biggest energy companies, says it is dedicated to supplying its 4 million-plus customers with smarter, more affordable and more sustainable energy solutions.
