At Tapcart’s biweekly product design meetings last year, the person with the least amount of product experience had some of the most valuable insights to offer.

“Since I was still in sales, I was speaking directly with customers,” recalled Courtney-Lauren Faiella. “This knowledge helped product design, as I was able to give insight into what those using the product had to say.”

This isn’t to discredit the ability of Tapcart’s product team; in fact it’s the opposite. Faiella was empowered to join the product meetings thanks to the company’s encouragement of employees to pursue their interests — even if those interests are not directly related to their current role or department. Tapcart’s culture of professional development goes hand in hand with interdepartmental collaboration and learning.

When she joined the product meetings, Faiella had just been onboarded to the sales team.

“Tapcart took a chance on me,” she said. “With just sales experience, not specific to SaaS or the BDR world, the Tapcart team helped me learn what it truly means to prospect. Because of that, I’ve learned how to quickly read and digest information and turn that into personalization.”

Faiella grew into the role quickly and soon was promoted to take on larger accounts as a business development representative.

WHAT DOES TAPCART DO?

Tapcart is a mobile app provider that serves thousands of Shopify brands.

When Faiella mentioned that she was curious about UX/UI, her manager suggested she take a course to learn more about design, research and site optimization. After the class ended, she reached out to the product and web design teams at her company and asked if she could offer any support and learn from the team at the same time.

“I was able to sit in on marketing meetings, product design meetings and was given additional resources to learn so that if and when the opportunity presented itself, I would be ready,” she recalled. “As I was growing in my journey, I realized marketing was calling my heart.”

Today, Faiella works as a marketing development representative and considers herself a translator between marketing and sales. She often is responsible for taking marketing’s messaging and translating it for salespeople to use in their outreach.

“Making sure we’re saying the right things to the right people has been great, and I can’t wait to keep growing in this role,” she added. “The culture of growth and career development is prevalent across the teams at my company.”

HOW FAIELLA’S EXPERIENCE COMPARES TO OTHERS

Faiella’s experience is representative of Tapcart’s culture in two ways:

  1. Working cross departmentally is not uncommon in the e-commerce company.
  2. Pursuing a new skill or an interest in an area outside of someone’s department is welcomed.

Senior QA Engineer Jake Barrett experienced similar support from Tapcart.

Barrett spent his early days at the company manually testing the merchant dashboard by clicking through the product.

“I was motivated to enhance my technical skills, so I expressed interest and started to learn more about automation and API testing,” said Barrett.

He was able to set aside time to learn tools like Postman for API testing and Cypress for automated testing. The additional skill set that was added to his professional toolbox gave Barrett the credentials he needed to oversee Tapcart’s automated test suite.

“Joining Tapcart has truly leveled up my career,” said Barrett. “When I first came on board, I had limited technical abilities and my role was primarily focused on manual testing. However, the supportive environment at Tapcart — combined with the guidance of my manager and access to various trainings — have allowed me to advance my technical skills.”

Committed to Collaboration and Professional Development

Professional development at Tapcart is built around more than just good managers who make sure their teams have the time to take self-guided courses — although that happens, too. The team has built a culture of professional development around pushing each other to grow, learn something new and get excited when the wins come.

Enterprise Account Executive Andrea Iannantuono has seen this firsthand. “At Tapcart, our vibe is all about growing together and celebrating every win, big or small,” she said.

Iannantuono sees professional development as only one aspect of a multifaceted culture at Tapcart.

“Tapcart shines in fostering a culture where professional growth intertwines with a vibrant, team-first approach,” she said. “In this fast-paced startup environment, agility and innovation aren’t just buzzwords — they’re the pillars of a space where continuous learning thrives.”

Iannantuono gave the example of the internal hackathons. “They’re not just for fun; they push us to innovate and work better as a team, leading to some cool new features for our products,” she noted.

She went on to share how the sales process is a perfect example of how collaboration across the departments comes together for a perfect relay hand off. While the deal starts with the sales team, they will bring in lots of other roles — like solutions consultants, implementation specialists, account managers and even the product team — to make sure the end result is something that really resonates with the Shopify audience.

“It’s a whole team play,” she added.

Barrett sees the same type of close collaborations within the engineering team.

“When I first joined Tapcart, I was impressed by the collaborative culture in the engineering department,” he said. “Tapcart has a strong culture of growth and personal development, where everyone is committed to not only improving themselves but also contributing to the company’s success. Our managers encourage everyone to embrace new challenges, learn new skills and share knowledge with peers.”

One of the ways that the engineering team helps each other learn and grow is through consistent mentoring that focuses on specific skill sets. Team members regularly share insights on new tools and methodologies. The result is an intentionally collaborative learning environment.

As a senior QA engineer, Barrett takes part in this process by training and mentoring junior QA team members, guiding them through the testing processes.

“This mentorship role not only allows me to refine my own skills but also contributes to the skill enhancement of my teammates,” he added. “I’ve found that these training sessions are one of the most effective ways to solidify my own understanding, while simultaneously helping the team grow.”

Barrett added that he sees this kind of willingness to teach and hunger to learn from departments, too.

“Even though I am on the QA team, Tapcart gives me the freedom to work with other departments in order to expand my knowledge of our product,” he added.

All departments share their wins on Slack and in companywide meetings. To Barrett, this is a small example of how the company reinforces the idea that success is a collective triumph.

“When one of us succeeds, it’s a win for everyone at Tapcart,” he said.

Turning Work into Passion

Iannantuono’s initial meetings at Tapcart were also her first steps into e-commerce.

“I started by reaching out to brands, a step that opened the door to this vibrant industry for me,” she said. “It was more than just building a sales pipeline; it was my introduction to a world I would grow to love.”

As she eventually moved to a closing role, her conversations around e-commerce naturally  deepened and started “turning into a passion,” she said.

“This wasn’t just about sales anymore,” she added. “It became about making a real impact.”

Iannantuono started to train new representatives and took part in sculpting the sales processes — which all meant working closely with some of the best Shopify brands, she noted.

“These experiences weren’t just professional milestones, they were personal triumphs; each project and brand launch was a testament to my journey,” said Iannantuono. “From those first outreach calls to leading strategic initiatives, my path at Tapcart has been deeply intertwined with our company’s evolution, a journey filled with growth, challenges and the joy of contributing to something bigger.”

Iannantuono went on to explain that her passion has always been rooted in brands, but it was working with Tapcart that showed her just how much she enjoyed working with e-commerce.

“I’ve discovered a profound love for the e-commerce space,” said Iannantuono. “This adventure has not only propelled my growth in tech sales but also allowed me to deeply immerse myself in helping brands unlock their full potential.”

On a personal note, she feels that working in such a dynamic startup environment honed her resilience and adaptability.

“These are qualities that are now integral to who I am,” she continued. “I’m filled with genuine pride when I think about the incredible apps we’ve launched, each one a testament to our commitment to providing brands with the best possible user experience and consumers with a delightful shopping journey.”

For Iannantuono, the ethos of the company comes back to creativity and determination.

“The experiences I’ve gathered along the way have shaped my ability to tackle complex challenges with creativity and determination,” she concluded. “Diving into Tapcart has truly transformed my journey, both professionally and personally.”

AI IN E-COMMERCE

Fast Simon, an AI-powered shopping optimization, is working with Tapcart to create three new widgets for the company’s mobile app builder. The AI support is meant to help e-commerce companies make more sales through Tapcart’s mobile apps.

For teammates like Faiella, working at Tapcart allows them to level up their career.

“I’m growing in my career by having my hand in many different projects,” said Faiella. “I’m helping with partnerships with events, content marketing with copy, social marketing with ideas, sales with messaging and more.”

Looking to the future, Faiella hopes to start working on as many Salesforce certifications as possible, while learning as much as possible about the entire company’s tech stack.

“Joining Tapcart has positively impacted my professional journey in many ways,” concluded Faiella. “I am continually challenged to be better than I was the day before. I show that I’m a team player and eager to learn and they are happy to help me do so. I feel confident in my ability to make a positive contribution to my marketing team.”
