Shortly after joining Achieve as a debt consultant, Courtney Buycks had a sudden realization that would define the trajectory of her career.

“I quickly learned that our company’s purpose aligned with my own more than that of any other organization,” said Buycks, whose passion for changing people’s lives parallels Achieve’s commitment to “help everyday people thrive.”

So she pursued a leadership path in the company, knowing this would maximize the impact she could have on others. That’s how she landed her current role as sales director.

Since joining Achieve, Buycks shared, she has been empowered by leaders, peers and a sales culture she considers “unmatched” by any other she has worked within.

“I’ve been in some form of sales my entire working life, and never once have I felt the belonging and support I feel at Achieve,” she said.

For Buycks, having this level of encouragement and camaraderie has been critical to her growth journey. Even on days when she gets caught up in personal matters or the hustle and bustle of everyday life, she feels as though her colleagues are always there to help, giving her the strength she needs to tackle each workday with enthusiasm.

“Knowing that the person next to you cares about you as both a person and a coworker means the world to me and is what pushes me to go hard every day,” Buycks said. “We’re in this together.”

Below, Buycks shares more about how she has grown at the company, how she has been empowered to thrive and her advice for other women in sales eager to chase their professional dreams.

‘A BETTER FINANCIAL FUTURE’

Achieve is dedicated to helping consumers build a better financial future for themselves by enabling them to find the solution to meet their needs, whether a personal loan, a home equity loan, debt resolution or online resources to help them more effectively control their expenses and save money.

What has your growth journey at Achieve looked like so far?

Courtney Buycks
Sales Director • Achieve

My journey with Achieve has been amazing. Having the ability to wake up each morning knowing I get to change the lives of the consumers I come into contact with is a feeling that’s irreplaceable.

I joined the organization as a debt consultant and quickly learned that our company’s purpose aligned with my own more than that of any other organization. The more I got into the role, I discovered very quickly that I wanted to pursue a leadership path. This would ensure I could help even more consumers by growing with the company and helping my teams become skilled at changing lives as well. I have never looked back.

Since joining Achieve, how have you been empowered to make an impact on others?

The ways I’ve been empowered are almost limitless. It started with leaders using my calls as examples of what a good consultation could sound like, and then it evolved into the support I received when pursuing each level of leadership I’ve attained. Lastly, being a part of our She Achieves employee resource group, which is dedicated entirely to empowering women, has been one of the most fulfilling projects I’ve taken on in my tenure with Achieve.

‘BALANCING THE HEART WITH THE DOLLAR’

According to Buycks, Achieve’s sales culture hinges on the notion of “balancing the heart with the dollar.” In other words, everything teammates accomplish is intended to weigh their own needs with the needs of both the business and the consumer. “That work never stops, and every single decision that’s made aligns with this idea,” Buycks said. “I know that’s what sets us apart.”

How have your peers stepped up to support you during your time at Achieve?

I believe it’s each person’s care for one another that makes my work easy. We all come up against stressful times when either our personal or professional lives are out of whack. There have been times where I’ve sat down with trusted peers and asked for help and guidance, and there have been other times when I was so caught up in the hustle and bustle that they noticed I needed help and asked how they could support me. We’re in this together, changing the lives of our teammates and the everyday consumer with each action we take.

Do you have any advice for other women in sales eager to chase their professional dreams?

Never settle. Never look at who is in the position beside you or above you and let what you see dictate how far you think you can go. If you have a dream, a calling or a desire, go for it. I’ve also learned that you never have to go for it alone. Once you set your sights on a goal, enlist the help of peers, especially the help of the people in the positions you’re looking to grow into. Who better to guide and support you than the ones who have already blazed a trail for you?
