I started a new job, and I owe it all to Built In Chicago.
For the first time in my career, I am working for a start-up. My title is Account Manager, but like with any start-up, even though that’s my title, I am prepared to do more -- to go above and beyond to get things accomplished for a company that has only been in business for three years. The reason I came back to Built In Chicago to post this blog is because it was so important to me to share my story with those of you looking for a great position.
My job search
As I began inquiring about job opportunities back in April, I knew I wanted to learn about small start-up businesses that might be expanding. I was dreading going to the 'typical' job online sites, i.e. Craigslist, Career Builder, Monster, etc. because of the mass amounts of information I would have to sort through. Thinking to myself "Is this company legit?" or "Is this the right fit for what I am looking for?" The search is tiring and often produces few solid leads compared to the hours you put in.
It is often said that finding and applying for a job is sometimes itself like having a full-time job. However, once I went to the Built In Chicago website, it was recommended that I sign-up and create a profile. Immediately I knew this site was different. It is customized by offering jobs that matched what I was looking for. What I saw was different and refreshing! Something where I felt like the research and work I put in actually amounted to finding positions that would match my requirements.
Why I like the Built In Chicago site
There is nothing complicated about this site, and I found every business posting to be verified and accurate. Plus it is tailored to the world of entrepreneurs and small start-ups. This was exactly what I had been looking for! It was like a breath of fresh air to carve out a few hours or so each week and go through potential opportunities. It was so simple, and, again, the site is very user-friendly.
The good news....

Within a month, I received an email back from a company named CraftJack that I had reached out to about a position advertised on the site. CrackJack is a company that is founded by Ross Gordan, and our offices are in Evanston. Put simply, it's a small start-up lead generation company linking up homeowners and contractors digitally. After completing two interviews, I was offered the job which I happily accepted! And guess what? I'm the first woman to join the start-up full-time. Pretty cool and I owe my simple search results to Built In Chicago! Thanks guys!
