Are we likely to be walking to work in 2050, cycling, riding a segway, utilising public transport hyperloop systems, driving driverless cars, or even superyachting into the office? No one can answer this with total accuracy, but we do know that technology will be far more advanced than it is today, and it will play a huge part in ‘getting us around’ from location to location.
Despite all the rapid urbanisation and talk of bullet trains and technology like the hyperloop coming to the fore, the car isn’t going anywhere - and in fact in the next couple of decades there will be even more of them on the road.
“Driverless car technology is swiftly rolling out, with major tech companies and automakers aggressively seeking to debut human-free vehicles in coming years.”

From driverless cars to supersonic trains and space elevators, we’re all wondering how we will get around in a few short years from now. Being stuck in traffic and late for work could all be a thing of the past, here are a few of the new inventions that may just be up and running by 2050:
Segway
In 1999 an inventor named Dean Kamen saw the need for a new mode of transport, he and his team created an Independence IBOT™ Mobility System, the Segway was born, and in 2002 the product was first sold.

Driverless Car
An autonomous car, also known as a driverless car, self-driving car or robotic car, is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. Many such systems are evolving, but as of 2017 no cars permitted on public roads were fully autonomous.

Hyperloop
A hyperloop is a proposed mode of passenger and/or freight transport, designed jointly by Tesla and SpaceX and comprises of a sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance at optimal speed and acceleration.

Supersonic Train
China has started looking into creating a high-speed flying train that could reach speeds of almost 2,500 mph according to space-run state contractors.
Space Elevator
A space elevator is a proposed type of space transportation system. The main component would be a cable anchored to the surface and extending into space. The design would permit vehicles to travel along the cable from a planetary surface such as the Earth’s surface, directly into space or orbit without the use of large rockets.

Futuristic Boats
Superyachts are the latest must-buy for the seriously rich, and they are moving into a futuristic feel with the use of Integral Tenders, as designed by Dutch superyacht yard Feadship. When docked onto the sides of the mothership, the tenders’ engines charge the central battery bank, which can then provide silent propulsion at ten knots when the tenders are deployed, meaning futuristic boats can get you to and from work without noise, pollution and faster than ever before.
We’re not saying that everyone will be using superyachts, space elevators or even supersonic trains by 2050 to get to work, but most of these will be up and running in one guise or another, and you just might know someone who is ‘getting around’ by using one of these modes of transport.
