TIY Pop-Up: Careers in UI Design and Java Back End Engineering, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.

Head to Brew and Brew downtown with instructors Ben Gillin and Gill Pratte for a discussion on what it's like to work in UI design and Java backend engineering. The goal is to identify if a career in these fields would be a good fit for you. Iron Yard will also be providing info on their programs. 

A Fireside (Tech) Chat with Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m.

Head over to The Zebra's office this Tuesday for a happy hour and fireside chat with Mayor Steve Adler. The Mayor will discuss current challenges faced by the city and the tech community and offer insights to how the two can work together. The event is free, but space is limited. 

Craft Your Brand, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Join us at Hops and Grain in East Austin for a free, hands-on workshop led by author and CEO Deb Gabor. Learn how to create and take ownership of your own personal brand by identifying your purpose and passion, creating a strategic foundation for your brand and practicing how to tell your story through the "Anti-Elevator Pitch" process.

Winning the Job Search: The Whole Package, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m.

General Assembly will host a session on developing a professional LinkedIn page reflective of your career ambitions. Additional topics to be covered include how to use social media and blogs to expand your network and stay updated on industry trends, and how to interweave your personal brand effectively into cover letters and resumes. Please bring your laptop, notepad and pen, and an editable resume. 

Ask A Software Architect Lunch Hour Q&A at Uncle Billy's, Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m.

Join Orion Jensen and Barrett Simms, two senior software architects with decades of experience building software and systems for successful startups and major corporations, who will answer mission-critical, technology-related questions. Note that lunch will not be covered, but attendees are welcome to purchase and eat during the event.
