Could table tennis be the key to funding?

Most tech companies I know in town have a ping-pong table; it could be one of the few "constants" with start-ups I know.

  • For some, the table is a place to burn off energy and get a quick dose of a cardio workout.
  • For others, it serves as their conference table.
  • But when was the last time your table actually DID something for your start-up, like, uh, I don't know, help land you funding or get connected with some key people in town?

The Chicago International Table Tennis Festival is coming to Chicago September 27-29; attached is a link to a release on the highlights.    As part of the celebration, Killerspin (one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of table tennis equipment, apparel and media that just happens to be HQ’ed in downtown Chicago) is hosting its 10-year anniversary party with 1871, and we wanted to pass along the networking opp to the Built in Chicago crew.

On September 27th (from 5:30-9 PM at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom) members of Chicago's angel, venture and business community are coming together so they can get connected with startups or emerging entrepreneurs. I know, you're going to ask, "Who's gonna be there?"  I don't know yet, but I can tell you a lot of key players in Chicago's business community have been invited.  If you e-mail me for more information, I can tell you why BOTH Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have received invites, and why they like table tennis so much (HINT, did you watch the Olympics?)

Speaking of players, here's a chance for you to play table tennis (NOTE to all the IP experts here--Ping-Pong is trademarked) amongst yourselves and (if you're lucky enough) some of the world's top table tennis athletes who will be in town for the Festival.  Looking for more exposure?  The players will be part of a competition that will be broadcasted via CCTV (China’s main television network).

Tickets are going fast; click here for more information. Look forward to seeing you there!
