As the largest country in South America and the fifth largest nation globally, Brazil is one of the major world markets. The Brazilian national economy supports a population of over 200 million, spread across Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, the capital city Brasília, not to mention throughout the country’s rural expanses. As an emerging world economic power, Brazil is a BRICS state alongside Russia, India, China and South Africa. The regional and national economy is also driven by strong performance in the energy, financial services and hospitality sectors, in which Brazil is a competitor on the global market.
