HDR is seeking a South Central Substation Leader who is passionate about the Power industry and ready to lead and grow our high voltage substation teams in the South-Central Region, which includes Texas and Louisiana. This position, which will be based in our Houston, Texas office, is perfect for a leader who is passionate about building teams, motivated by shaping team culture, and driving strategy for growth.

This position will offer you the opportunity to lead and grow substation teams across the region. In this role, this person will be responsible for leading and growing substation teams and associated staff in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Baton Rouge, and potentially other locations in the region. The successful candidate will collaborate with and be supported by the Power Delivery practice and local operations to shape and grow a successful team.

In this role, you will establish, develop, and maintain strong client relationships utilizing an in-depth understanding of the client's business objectives. You will also focus on delivering project execution that exceeds client expectations by leveraging internal resources and growing teams. You will be a Project Manager for individual engineering projects and/or perform as an Engineering Manager, focused on technical execution, on some projects.

Specific duties include:

  • Lead, develop, direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise project execution teams.
  • Identify hiring needs, develop postings, support recruiting, Responsible for driving and growing HDR's portfolio of Power Delivery services.
  • Establish HDR as a preferred provider of Power Delivery services by developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for Power Delivery marketing/proposal efforts, communications and client development with business, operations, marketing, and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth, and profitability.
  • Provide technical leadership and project management oversight to ensure projects have appropriate staff assigned and that the finished product meets or exceeds HDR quality and client expectations.
  • Track and monitor workload of all substation team members in the region and work with local operations and the Power Delivery practice to meet utilization targets.
  • Coordinate with local operations, section managers in other offices, and business group leadership to support work-sharing efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate project execution risks (i.e. contract terms, staffing, project financials, change orders, schedules, technical expertise, safety, and quality).
  • Encourage and participate in business and community activities as a representative of HDR.
  • Serve as client liaison in collaboration with business development leaders.
  • Willing to travel to develop relationships with staff in other offices, visit project sites, and/or attend client meetings.
  • Administer performance reviews and staff evaluations of direct reports.
  • Monitor and manage staff morale in the section and provide leadership to promote a positive work environment.
  • Perform client management, project management and/or technical support activities.
  • Lead and motivate the staff in the section to strive to meet operational goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Minimum of 10 years of Power Delivery design experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience
  • Must have the technical capability to provide quality control reviews for engineering design packages relative to candidate expertise.
  • Excellent client management skills, marketing, and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with clients.
  • Proven experience scoping projects, managing projects, managing client relationships, proposal development, and business development.
  • Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical leads, and project staff
  • Committed to safety, quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with managing multiple client relationships throughout the US is preferred.
  • PE preferred
  • Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm is preferred.
