Role Overview 

Join our dynamic team as a Senior Solution Architect, where you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing innovative solutions AvidXchange’s core and shared software platforms, along with cutting-edge data platforms for integration, reporting, analytics, and AI/ML. As a Solution Architect, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance solutions that meet our business objectives. 

What you’ll do 

Architecture Solutioning: 

  • Architect, design, and oversee the implementation of core and shared software platforms as well as data platforms for integration, reporting, analytics, and AI/ML capabilities to support the organization's strategic goals. 
  • Craft architectural solutions to meet business and product needs. Be a role model for the architectural ideas of other technical staff.  
  • Design scalable, secure, and efficient platforms and solutions.  
  • Ensures that individual initiative solution architectures align with the organization's enterprise architecture. They define and communicate architectural standards, principles, and guidelines to project teams. They evaluate solution architectures and assess their impact on the overall enterprise architecture, identifying any misalignments or conflicts. 

Technology Leadership: 

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring best practices and architectural standards are followed. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement in platform architecture. 
  • Drives continuous improvement by evaluating project architecture outcomes, collecting feedback, and identifying areas for enhancement. 
  • Collaborate and lead with other architects in the creation, adoption, and spread of company technology standards and principles for engineering teams. 
  • Provides guidance, mentoring, and leadership to other architects and project teams across their portfolio. They promote architectural best practices, knowledge sharing, and professional development within the organization. They may also participate in hiring, training, and performance evaluation of solution architects within the portfolio. 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including business analysts, developers, and data scientists, to understand business requirements and translate them into effective solutions. 
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner. 
  • Understand, define, and communicate critical quality attributes or non-functional requirements. Simplify ideas for different audiences.  

Continuous Improvement:  

  • Drives continuous improvement by evaluating project architecture outcomes, collecting feedback, and identifying areas for enhancement. They contribute to the evolution of architectural frameworks, methodologies, and processes. They stay updated with industry trends and best practices, applying them to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of project architectures. 

What we’re looking for 

  • 10 or more years of full-time Architecture or Engineering experience, with at least half of that having solutions architecture responsibilities. We are looking for people who have been explicitly responsible for architecting solutions, who come from a technical background, and who have held both an explicit architecture role and/or were in a technical leadership role where architecture was a core function.  
  • Experience and knowledge with modern Architecture/Design practices (examples: Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design, Micro-service Architecture, Distributed Systems Architecture, Platform Thinking, standard modeling approaches and tools like C4 Modeling.  
  • Hand-on experience with Cloud Computing, with a preference & focus on Azure/.NET platform using some of the following example or similar technologies:
  • Examples: App Services, Serverless Function Apps, AKS/containers/Kubernetes, Service Bus, Event Hubs, BLOB Storage, Azure SQL for MySQL/PostGreSQL, Azure Cosmos DB, APIM, Azure Pipelines, etc..).
  • Experience in Architecture/Design of Data, Analytics, AI/ML Platforms using some of the following example or similar technologies:
  • Examples: Databricks, Azure Data Lake; Data Ingestion Platforms/Services like Azure Event Hubs or Kafka, Azure Data Factory; Generative AI / LLM technologies like GPT-4, ChatGPT, Azure OpenAI Service, AWS Bedrock or similar; Copilot; Machine Learning (ML) technologies like Azure ML, AWS Sagemaker, TensorFlow or similar.
  • Comfortable touching code and technology hands-on. While building production software is not your primary role, technical credibility is vital for communicating effectively with engineers and demonstrating technical excellence (e.g., building proof of concepts, sketching out ideas so you can experiment on, building reference implementations, and so on). 
  • Facilitation and communication skills. You will lead internal and external stakeholders to shared understandings of complex domains and propose technical solutions. You will need to be able to communicate the merits and tradeoffs of your ideas both to technical and nontechnical executives, as well as engineers and product owners. 
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking beyond the scope of your technical solution. Your work and designs are always part of a greater whole. Understanding how you impact other systems and people and articulating how it aligns with broader goals are important. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or other related technical field of study.
