JOB DESCRIPTION
In close collaboration with the Laboratory Leadership Team, identify opportunities for technological innovation and technologies such as automation, robotics, and AI across Integrated Labs to improve operations while complying with quality and safety standards. Helps design, develop, and socialize new technologies and innovations to increase the quality of lab services provided by Lab & Ops. At the same time works with global, regional, and local lab managers to identify, coordinate and drive laboratory automation projects. Partners with Engineering and Lab Management across the UL enterprise to maximize automation benefits, customer satisfaction, business results and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for driving proactive change and positive influence across Lab & Ops to provide a 21st century client experience to attract, retain and grow clients.
• Acts on and implements an automation strategy to improve speed, efficiency, quality, and performance.
• Leads, coordinates, and facilitates laboratory data acquisition and process automation initiatives on a global basis.
• Accountable for leading the planning, development and the implementation of automation and digitization projects globally.
• Partners with global, regional, and local lab managers and Operating Success & Standardization to identify, coordinate and drive laboratory automation projects.
• Utilizes direct and indirect reporting resources in collaboration with operational resources and the Chief Digital Officer.
• Collaborates with COU partners and Lab Management across UL Solutions to maximize automation benefits, customer satisfaction, business results and quality.
• Streamlines operations by automating where possible (e.g., test data flows directly from tests into report templates/data templates), removing non-value-added manual steps and reliance on transcription and lowering error rate.
• Identifies opportunities for ML/NLP/AI and RPA in the process and design, develop and implement them to drive customer value.
• Provides strategic direction into capital expenditures that impact lab technology capabilities by staying abreast of industry trends and opportunities to modernize and innovate UL's testing.
• Assesses current-state portfolio of lab systems and tools to determine opportunities for enhancement and new investment. Collaborates with regional Lab Operations to drive greater consistency in use of lab systems and applications to reduce unnecessary complexity and ensure labs make use of the best technology solutions.
• Leads the design, development, and implementation of systems and tools that enable enhanced service offering to customers, including live visibility project status and test results.
• Collaborates with enterprise Innovation & Transformation to design, develop and implement systems and tools that improve the employee experience by streamlining tasks and providing easy access to required information.
• Develops and maintains connections to UL Solution's digital platform to enhance visibility and communication of operational data (e.g., test results, scheduling, expected completion dates) to UL Solution's customers, Sales, COUs and Lab functions.
• Works to reduce complexity of variable testing methods and drives improvement with PDEs, PDTs and Standards to increase automation and efficiency to drive greater customer satisfaction and stronger business financials while continuing to always enhance and uphold quality.
• Effectively integrates with current operating systems, collaborates with Lean / Sigma initiatives, prepares, and develops transformational uses of laboratory data and support other digital transformation initiatives including AI/ML/RPA.
• Delivers results based on set milestones and key performance indicators.
• Responsible for achieving cost efficiencies. Accountable for planning, monitoring, recording, and reporting on the monetary and non-monetary efficiencies gained.
• Operates effectively in the UL matrix to actively support and drive high-performance culture changes, transformation efforts and people engagement. Develops and coaches by providing, training, career counseling, feedback, and guidance to drive high performance and morale. Ensures understanding of and compliance with all established policies and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Qualification as a Certified Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of total professional experience.
• Experience working with diverse, global teams strongly preferred.
• Experience managing and delivering clear, impactful communications to internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build credible relationships with multiple functions.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Experience leading technology implementation and related change initiatives across an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
• Experience applying a strong analytical mindset to solve business challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience collaborating with the technical categories of the laboratory operation.
