The Program Manager will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of one or more projects simultaneously, and/or overall Program Management effort oversight, including those of the greatest size, risk and complexity as defined by the project executive sponsor and key stakeholders, acting as a strategic partner with business executives.

As a member of the Markel Digital team, you will apply your technical, analytical, and project management skills to help our teams create incredible customer experiences. Your work will help deliver solutions that have a direct impact on Markel's digital transformation and on its customers.

Program Managers provide overall leadership, strategic planning, oversight and supervision to ensure successful delivery across a large program or multiple smaller projects. Program Managers ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with highest quality.

In this role, the Program Manager will apply the appropriate methodology to the project based on complexity, number of integration points and length of the project. The Program Manager will know what to measure and how it should be measured and managed to meet business goals.

He/She will apply knowledge of the project targets and milestones to recommend cost effective solutions. This includes questioning conventional wisdom and processes and looking at the greater good of Markel.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the execution of programs and projects of various sizes
  • Work with business and technical leaders to set goals, identify risks, track progress, and drive to resolutions.
  • Use creativity, relationships, organizational and technical skills to move the projects forward
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the project team - ensuring sponsors and key stakeholders are aware of status, risks & issues, impact of changes and key decisions
  • Monitor metrics and program health, anticipate and clear blockers, manage escalations
  • Influence and mediate challenging conversations and decisions across divisions to ensure a clear direction and focus for the project
  • Build and execute strategic change management plans including executive-level communications, associate experiences, customer impacts, etc.
  • Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve for them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations
  • Partner with risk, governance, cybersecurity, audit, and other internal functions that connect to our teams and require our collaboration
  • Manage vendor relationships where applicable

Skills & Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience leading projects with accountability for resource allocation, budget, scope, risk mitigation, and executive communication.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to present complex, subject matter in a clear, concise, and compelling manner
  • Expertise in relationship building with proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituents, including peers, executive leaders, and senior management
  • Ability to flip back and forth from strategy to tactics quickly
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize
  • Experience working in an environment that leverages Agile principles to organize and drive work
  • Clear results orientation
  • He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and its distribution channels are a plus
