Finance Data Operations Manager
The world's largest asset class, debt, operates with the worst data.
Technology has revolutionised equity markets with electronic trading, quant algos and instantaneous news. However, in debt capital markets, the picture is completely different. It still behaves like it’s in the 1980s; trillions of dollars of trades are placed over the phone, news is slow, and corporate credit information is imperfect and scattered.
Our mission is to change this.
9fin's proprietary technology delivers fast and comprehensive financial, credit, legal and ESG data and analysis. Our clients are able to make faster, more informed decisions, win more business and most importantly, save time.
Our fast growing list of clients include 9 of the top 10 Investment Banks, leading Asset Managers, Hedge Funds and Law Firms.
The role
At 9fin, we're establishing a new Data Operations team to revolutionise our data approach. As a Data Operations Manager for 9fin’s financial statements product you will be a pivotal part of this initiative.
We’ve built proprietary software to extract financial information from any document. You will be expected to be a player-coach, managing Data Operations Associates who will need to:
- Be aware of ongoing financial reporting of companies 9fin tracks (thousands!), and act fast to update clients with key financial metrics. They’ll jump into the earnings reports, identify the right KPIs and blast these out to 9fin clients
- Use our technology to extract information from financial documentation
- Complete all relevant extraction validation to ensure a high degree of accuracy and data quality
- Map new reported numbers onto our existing financials, building out a timely, accurate picture of a company's health
- Understand and tag specific financial terms to provide a standardised set, comparable across all financial data on 9fin
- Create and maintain Capitalisation Tables for all of the companies in our coverage universe
This role reports to the Head of Data Operations and involves close collaboration with our Credit team in New York and London who perform credit analysis on leveraged finance issuers.
What you’ll work on
Every day is different, but here’s an example of the kind of things you’ll work on:
- Team leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to a team of Data Operations Associates, ensuring seamless workflow management, prioritisation, and expectation achievement
- Player coach: Balance the team lead role with individual contributor tasks, with the ability to step in with hands-on support as required
- Workflow development: Collaborate with senior stakeholders to design and optimise data processing workflows, focusing on speed and accuracy
- Quality assurance: Oversee the implementation of quality control measures to maintain the integrity and accuracy of processed data
- Project management: Coordinate and manage various projects within the data operations space, ensuring timely completion and alignment with business goals
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, to understand their data needs and streamline delivery processes
- Performance monitoring: Track and evaluate team performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies for enhancement
Training and development: Conduct training sessions, nurture skill development, and facilitate the professional growth of team members
Requirements
If you have proven experience leading and inspiring high performing teams in a fast-paced, dynamic company, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll also be able to demonstrate:
- Financial awareness: Experience and interest in financial markets and have good knowledge of financial statements, and data extraction tools
- Demonstrated leadership: Strong team management skills, gained in a similar environment or related field. Leadership skills include motivating a high-performance team and fostering collaboration
- Willingness to challenge the status quo: You see how things could be done better, and you aren’t afraid to speak up
- Growth mindset: You believe that your team members’ most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work — brains and talent are just the starting point
- Strong attention to detail: With excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, demonstrating an aptitude for auditing team output to maintain consistently high standards of accuracy and quality across all team work
- Senior stakeholder relationships: Ability to build strong communication channels with senior stakeholders based in different locations and time zones
- Flexibility Required: Due to our global operations, there will be a need for occasional work during US market hours. The specific schedule for this coverage will be determined by the team, but please be aware that there may be weeks where your hours will differ from the standard UK hours.
