We focus on investigative research, video essays, and documentaries for a curious, engaged audience that always seeks deeper answers.

About the role 

As a Content Localizer you will play a key role in bringing German-speaking content from Simplicissimus to an international audience through fern. Working closely with our editorial team, you will adapt German scripts into English, rewriting them in fern's distinct voice and tone while localizing the content for an international audience. This is a remote, freelance position.

Key Responsibilities 

• Translate and adapt German Simplicissimus scripts into English, rewriting them in fern's voice and tone.

• Adjust structure and phrasing where needed to improve flow and clarity.

• Research and rewrite sections to make content accessible and relatable for an international audience.

• Check for updates and new developments on topics to keep content current.

• Watch the original videos to adapt on-screen text and research international equivalents of visual elements such as headlines and graphics for the production team.

Skills and experience 

• Fluent English with excellent writing skills, ideally American English native (essential)

• Strong German comprehension skills (essential)

• Proven experience in translation and localization, ideally for editorial content

• Strong ability to adapt tone and voice to match an established channel style

• Thorough research skills and high attention to factual accuracy

• Ability to provide cultural context and identify what needs adapting for an international audience

• Experience writing or adapting scripts for video formats

• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality output within deadlines

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote teams

• Background in journalism, documentary, or factual storytelling (desirable)

• Familiarity with Simplicissimus, fern, or similar documentary-led channels (desirable)

Rate: EUR 250-300/day (depending on experience. This will be converted into the currency of where you are based)
