Role Description
The Lead QA Automation Engineer is responsible for defining and executing testing strategies, plans, and deliverables across applications and programmes within the domain. The role focuses on ensuring software quality, reliability, and performance through robust test automation, strong quality engineering practices, and continuous improvement.
- Design and execute testing frameworks and procedures to validate software functionality, performance, and reliability.
- Investigate defects and issues where software or technical products do not perform as expected.
- Implement quality assurance practices that support business and delivery objectives.
- Drive adoption of recognised best practices, policies, and standards while contributing to the continuous improvement of QA methodologies and assets.
- Partner with teams across the organisation to elevate QA standards and promote engineering excellence.
- Track defects and compile metrics and KPI information for reporting and decision-making.
- Contribute across key testing disciplines, including test automation, test processes, and testing products.

Your key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using modern scripting languages and frameworks such as Playwright and Cucumber BDD.
- Collaborate with development and QA teams to understand application features and build robust, scalable automation suites.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, such as TeamCity or Jenkins, to support continuous testing and deployment.
- Develop and execute performance, load, and stress testing strategies to ensure application reliability and scalability.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to uphold test code quality and engineering best practices.
- Analyse test results, prepare detailed reports, and improve test coverage, traceability, and overall efficiency.
- Stay current with emerging testing tools, technologies, and methodologies to continuously enhance the QA process.
Your skills and experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in test automation.
- Strong proficiency in Java or Python, with experience using automation frameworks such as Playwright, REST Assured, and Cucumber BDD.
- Strong understanding of core programming concepts, including data types, classes, objects, inheritance, and encapsulation, to build modular and scalable solutions.
- Strong experience with mocking, fixtures, and automated testing practices.
- Solid understanding of integration testing patterns and test environments.
- Hands-on experience with version control systems such as Git, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, build tools such as Gradle, and Linux environments.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs and web services.
- Experience working with messaging systems such as MQ and streaming platforms such as Kafka.
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, including database testing, SQL queries, and data validation across RDBMS and big data environments.
- Working knowledge of BDD and TDD methodologies and tools such as Cucumber.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.
- Experience implementing TDD and in-sprint automation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment.
