What is the opportunity?

Are you interested in the opportunity to work as a Data & AI Intern at RBC? Join the Group Risk Management – Balance Sheet and Liquidity Risk (GRM-BSLR) team, which performs the second line of defense role for all balance sheet and liquidity risks at the enterprise level. The team oversees liquidity risk across RBC, managing the complexity of large portfolios of assets, liabilities, and off-balance sheet instruments at the RBC level and within individual business lines and legal entities, while helping to meet regulatory expectations for liquidity risk oversight.

As a Data & AI Intern, you will help design and build innovative solutions that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to solve complex challenges in balance sheet and liquidity risk management — a hands-on role for a technically curious student eager to apply AI/ML to real-world problems in a highly regulated, data-rich environment.

What will you do?

  • Design, build, and deploy AI models (including large language models) to solve business problems and drive innovation
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure AI solutions are built on a robust, scalable, and modern data infrastructure
  • Work with business stakeholders, data scientists, and software engineers to align AI initiatives with organizational goals
  • Utilize the latest technologies and development tools, designing and building data and AI solutions to meet business needs
  • Constantly seek out better ways to do things — new tools, new technologies, new processes
  • Work on transformational projects that deliver new value to the group
  • Be an active contributor to your team and to the broader RBC development community

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or machine learning
  • Programming skills in Python
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML development
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of the financial and/or risk management domain
  • Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge

What's in it for you?

  • Be part of a team leading the way in AI adoption and application for the broader group, working with the latest development tools
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals
  • A collaborative team culture grounded in innovation
