The Windows & Unix area is responsible for the stable, secure, and high-performance operation of the company’s server infrastructure supporting business-critical applications. This includes the administration of Windows and Unix-based systems (Linux, AIX) as well as virtualization platforms across on-premise data centers and cloud environments.
The Windows & Unix / Virtualization Lead plays a key role in ensuring operational excellence by leading server management activities, driving infrastructure modernization initiatives, and maintaining compliance with security and service standards. The position requires strong technical leadership, strategic planning, and close collaboration with cross-functional IT teams to ensure reliable and efficient IT operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the management, deployment, and optimization of Windows and Unix (Linux, AIX) server environments
- Oversee patch management, performance monitoring, and incident response for server infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
- Drive migration projects for end-of-life hardware and legacy systems
- Develop and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery processes
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of server-related incidents and problems
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of server architectures, configurations, and operational procedures
- Mentor and guide L2 Support Analysts, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing
- Organize and manage the on-call rota for the server operations area
- Collaborate with application, network, and storage teams to ensure seamless server operations
- Conduct regular reviews of server performance, capacity, and utilization
- Lead server consolidation and optimization initiatives
- Participate in governance, reporting, and service review meetings
- Ensure alignment with SLA requirements and operational targets
- Support audit and compliance activities for server environments
- Lead the response to audit findings and ensure timely remediation
- Stay current with emerging server technologies and industry best practices
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with third-party support providers
- Drive continuous improvement in server management processes
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning for server platforms
- Oversee the secure decommissioning and disposal of end-of-life hardware
- Manage and support the hypervisor and virtualization layer (VMware or equivalent platforms)
- Maintain and support server clusters in on-premise data centers and VMC on AWS environments
Requirements:
- Advanced skills in Windows, Linux, and AIX server administration
- Experience with CIS hardening standards and structured patch orchestration
- Strong expertise in virtualization platforms such as VMware, Nutanix, or Hyper-V
- Knowledge of VM clustering and high availability architectures
- In-depth experience with Active Directory, GPO strategy, and secure administration
- Understanding of Linux/AIX identity integration technologies (SSSD, PAM, Kerberos)
- Experience with SSH key management and secure authentication methods
- Performance engineering skills including PerfMon, event log analysis, and IOPS monitoring
- Experience with TLS/PKI infrastructure and certificate lifecycle management
- Proven knowledge of backup and disaster recovery planning
- Experience with endpoint security management and EDR agent operations
- Demonstrated expertise in EOL remediation and OS/platform migration projects
- Strong documentation and CMDB management skills
- Ability to mentor junior team members and support their professional development
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment
