Job Summary & Responsibilities

Job Summary

As an expert and senior member of the Middle Market Banking team, develops, maintains, and owns long-term and profitable relationships with commercial customers having $35MM to $500MM in revenue. Serves as a trusted financial partner by providing customers with a comprehensive set of products and services. Assists in day-to-day Middle Market operations and special projects, as needed. Assists and may mentor junior team members as needed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and executes a direct sales calling program to add value and strengthen personal relationships with commercial customers. Maintains and deepens current customer relationships and proactively identifies and develops prospective customers or centers of influence.
  • Collaborates with business partners such as treasury management, private wealth management, and other line-of-business segments to strategize and develop comprehensive customer relationships in the middle market segment.
  • Engages and consults with commercial customers to identify, understand, and prioritize their financial needs. Champions the customer's financial success through positioning a comprehensive set of product solutions and engaging appropriate product partners.
  • Leads the efforts of a cross-functional deal team including underwriters, analysts, and relationship associates, responsible for providing financial and statistical data to determine and support customer credit worthiness.
  • Prepares and delivers credit presentations for review and approval. Arranges legal services for the execution of loan documentation, ongoing monitoring of credits, and preparation of appropriate memos for waivers, amendments, and modifications to customer credit facilities.
  • Ensures all transactions and processes are in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures. Ensures underwriting and credit standards are maintained.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with community based organizations and serves the community through organizations, boards, professional memberships, and local groups. Represents Synovus in a positive and professional manner.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to junior team members as part of their ongoing growth and development. Participates in special projects as required.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience:

Twelve years of commercial banking experience including experience with standard industry loan documentation and at least seven years working in the middle market segment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of commercial loan products, credit analysis techniques, disbursement procedures, and underwriting functions
  • Knowledge of commercial loan structures, setting of appropriate loan and financial covenants, and
  • Knowledge of universally accepted loan practices
  • Sales skills, and the ability to solicit interest in products and/or services
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to secure customer relationships
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively and clearly speak in public and group settings
  • Ability to gather information and provide appropriate solutions
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products
