The Weld Technician is responsible and accountable for supporting and maintaining welding processes on their assigned shift. Responsibilities include weld inspection and testing, troubleshooting, parameter verification, corrective actions, process improvements, and training related to welding operations. The Weld Technician ensures all welding activities are performed in accordance with customer specifications, internal standards, and control plans while supporting safe and efficient operation of welding equipment and processes within the division.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of a Weld Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technician diploma (2 years), with 2 years practical welding experience. Weld Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technologist diploma (3 years) is preferred.
2. Good mathematical, organizational and communication skills.
3. Experience / working knowledge in robotic mig and resistance welding. 4. Experience with destructive and non-destructive testing.
5. Knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
6. Experience working in a welding or manufacturing environment.
7. Knowledge of Bosch weld controllers and Emhart systems is considered an asset.
8. Good mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve welding process and equipment-related issues.
DUTIES:
1. Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance activities to support operational requirements.
2. Understands content of weld inspection reports. Can retrieve/review data from the weld database.
3. Collaborate effectively with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to support operational objectives.
4. Strong problem solving/trouble shooting skills. Takes lead on weld related failures.
5. Validate and monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions related to welding processes and quality concerns.
6. Create and maintain accurate documentation related to weld parameters, process controls, and quality requirements.
7. Understands and can apply customer (AIAG CQI-15) and internal weld specifications and standards.
8. Initiate and support containment activities and corrective actions with Quality Auditors for identified non-conformances.
9. Assists in control & management of all welding visual aids, weld maps, tip trays, etc.
10. Complete detailed shift reports outlining production issues, quality concerns, corrective actions, and priorities for the incoming shift.
11. Understands PPAP requirements.
12. Prepare accurate customer reports, weld performance summaries, and data analyses to support corrective action prioritization and management review.
13. Understands and has the ability to complete correlation studies between destructive and non- destructive testing.
14. Sound technical understanding of weld quality standards including weld appearance and weld location - GMAW, RW-S, RW-P.
