BAE Systems is seeking a Weld Engineering Technologist that provides engineering and technical support for welding operations in fabrication/manufacture of products. You will be responsible for applying principles of welding and materials science to the development and manufacturing of the welded assemblies in our portfolio. In this role as a Weld Engineering Tech, you will research and apply our specifications to process development and manage consumable tracking and compliance. You'll prepare, conduct, and evaluate Weld Engineering analysis/documentation, test/examination, and performance and procedure qualification in compliance with customer requirements and applicable welding standards and specifications. As a Welding Engineering Technologist, you'll provide support to the Manufacturing Engineers supporting the welding processes and operations in the Weapons Systems portfolio.
Duties to include:
- Assist in selecting weld equipment and consumables.
- Prepare and conduct weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures.
- Engage in weld procedure and performance qualifications.
- Use knowledge of welding to assist department in non-conformance tracking and defect prevention.
- Review supplier capability and suitability to provide acceptable product and comply with government specifications.
- Contribute to the creation of welding standards and specifications.
- Assist in addressing non-conformances and assist in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
- Develop and write technical documentation, revise existing documentation, and provide input to technical papers or presentations.
- Support of onsite weld school.
- Develop work documentation for tracking, certification, and procurement of weld consumables.
- Support Supply Chain and new Suppliers with onboarding, on site visits, and compliance.
- Support Supplier Quality with Supplier Audits.
- Interface with vendors for support with equipment, consumables, and process development.
- Conduct or assist with testing of new gases, consumables, or materials.
- Participation in new process development and PQR submittals.
- Work with the production staff on new process implementation.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Typically requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a technical discipline and four years of related experience, or an Associates and six years of related experience, or the overall equivalent.
- Experience required in Welding, Weld Engineering Technology, SAW, GMAW, SMAW, and/or GTAW welding processes.
- Understanding of welding specifications such as AWS, ASME, or NAVSEA.
- Familiarity with equipment and technologies relevant to welding and Weld Engineering.
- Working knowledge of NDT inspection techniques, processes, and interpretation of results.
- Experience in writing technical documentation for production operations and consumable tracking.
- Computer skills including experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant business applications.
- Ability to assist and support in solving complex technical problems in operations.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.
- Ability to adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Oracle.
- Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification.
- Associate's degree in an Engineering Discipline, preferably welding or similar field.
- NDT Level II certification.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688, and T9074-AS-GIB-010/271.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $86460 - $146982
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
