Position Overview

Groupon, a global leader in local commerce, is seeking an exceptionally talented individual to lead our initiatives to improve the ranking of deals, ultimately driving profitability and enhancing customer engagement. The successful candidate will become intimately familiar with our algorithms, use analytics to determine optimization opportunities and, work closely with engineering teams to test algorithm changes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in multi-market eCommerce environments and be adept at navigating a fast-paced, dynamic atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy and execution of ranking algorithms to drive profitability and improve customer engagement.
  • Collaborate with engineering, data science, UX/UI designers, and commercial teams to develop scalable solutions that enhance the user experience.
  • Analyze user behavior and business metrics to align ranking strategies with overall business goals and product roadmaps.
  • Develop and prioritize product roadmaps focused on enhancements of internal ranking engines.
  • Use data-driven insights to fine-tune relevance models and continuously improve ranking systems.
  • Serve as the liaison between commercial stakeholders and engineering teams, ensuring alignment on business goals and technical feasibility.
  • Monitor and analyze the impact of changes to ranking algorithms on key performance indicators, adjusting as necessary.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation, driving continuous improvement and keeping pace with market trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience optimizing in-house ranking algorithms.
  • Strong track record of delivering measurable results through algorithm improvements.
  • Experience in a multi-market eCommerce company or a similarly fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business language for cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment, interfacing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with large-scale data sets and machine learning models related to ranking preferred.
  • Knowledge of A/B testing, personalization, and recommendation systems preferred.
