How can you contribute to what we do?
As Vice President, Tax, you will oversee the Company's tax strategy, compliance, reporting, and risk management while helping preserve Tanger's REIT status and supporting long-term growth initiatives. You will collaborate across Finance, Legal, People & Culture, Operations, Development, and Executive Leadership to provide guidance on complex business transactions, acquisitions, joint ventures, and evolving tax regulations. This is an opportunity for a strategic tax leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, leading high-performing teams, and making a meaningful impact on a publicly traded organization.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Domestic Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Tax Compliance
• Lead and oversee the Company’s REIT compliance activities, including quarterly income, asset, and distribution testing, collaboration with outside REIT experts, and coordination with Operations and Marketing to identify other income items.
• Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, international, and joint venture tax returns, estimated tax payments, dividend taxability workpapers, and related tax reporting requirements.
• Manage sales tax reporting, personal property tax returns/listings, tax notices, audits, and communications with taxing authorities, outside tax experts, and JV partners.
• Evaluate tax credits, incentives, debt allocation matters, cost segregation studies, depreciation allocation schedules, and other tax-planning opportunities that support Company objectives.
Other Tax Work and Research
• Review and/or complete tax research related to REIT qualification issues; federal, state, and local law changes; partnership issues; and foreign reporting and accounting tax matters.
• Review acquisition and disposition agreements, JV structures, operating agreements, TIF and development agreements, and significant acquisition due diligence for possible tax implications to the Company or Operating Partnership.
• Lead implementation of new tax law and/or IRS guidelines and regulations, including yearly elections, method change forms, matrices, tax provisions, ASC 740/FIN48 reporting, and revaluation trigger analysis.
• Serve as a tax resource to leadership and business partners, including work with NAREIT as applicable and consultation with People & Culture on employee federal, state, and local tax withholding and timing issues involving remittance of such tax.
International Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Tax Compliance
• Oversee international tax compliance activities, including tax return preparation, withholding obligations, transaction tax reporting, and responses to international taxing authorities, coordinating with outside tax preparers and tax accounting staff as needed.
Corporate Structure / Entity Management and Excess Ownership Limitations
• Advise management on entity formation and dissolution issues; ensure Form W-9s are accurately prepared and current; and work with corporate counsel and outside counsel on ownership reports, shareholder ownership limitations, annual confirmations, and related resolutions or waivers.
Assistance with Financial Reporting/Incentive Compensation Administration
• Prepare and/or review tax-related public reporting disclosures, annual proxy statement schedules and disclosures, and support administration of the Company’s incentive compensation plans in coordination with People & Culture, as needed.

Required Education and Experience:
• Master of Science with a concentration in Taxation.
• At least 10 years of experience working in REIT and real estate taxation, either at an accounting firm, law firm, or REIT.
• Active CPA license, if Master of Science in Tax.
Hiring Range Disclaimer:
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Tanger's total compensation package for employees.
Hiring Range: $153,000 - $233,000 per year
