About the Company

Luxer One is the technology platform behind a growing portfolio of intelligent locker, access control, smart lock, and connected security solutions — serving multifamily communities, commercial enterprises, retail, manufacturing, and specialty deployments. A division of ASSA ABLOY — the world's leading access solutions company — we process nearly 100 million transactions per year across thousands of locations worldwide. Our customers include Amazon, DoorDash, Walmart, Google, and hundreds of leading multifamily communities.

We are at an inflection point: expanding our product portfolio into access control, smart locks, and commercial security; integrating acquired technologies; embedding AI across the business; and scaling our platform with the world's largest logistics, retail, and real estate enterprises. We're building the executive team to take us there.

Position Overview

The VP of Software Engineering is the technology executive for the Luxer One division — responsible for software engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure/DevOps, firmware and embedded systems integration, and the systems that connect our growing product portfolio to the world.

As the division expands beyond package management into access control, smart locks, sensors, and commercial security products, this role will be central to integrating acquired technologies, consolidating platforms across brands, and executing the division's IP and technology strategy. Reporting directly to the Division President and seated on the executive leadership team, this is a business leadership role as much as a technical one — designed for an engineering executive who can design an organization, develop leaders, drive architectural evolution, and help the business make better decisions through clear technical judgment.

What You'll Own

Technology Strategy, Architecture & IP

  • Set the engineering direction for Luxer One's technology platform across all product lines, brands, and market segments — including access control, smart locks, sensors, and emerging commercial security products.

  • Own architecture decisions for cloud infrastructure, SaaS platforms, APIs, integrations, mobile applications, firmware/embedded systems, and connected product technology.

  • Lead technology consolidation across acquired and legacy platforms — identifying redundancy, rationalizing the stack, and driving toward a coherent, scalable architecture.

  • Partner with business and legal leadership to develop and execute the division's IP strategy — protecting proprietary technology, supporting patent development, and informing licensing and platform decisions.

  • Lead the engineering organization's AI strategy, from developer productivity tooling to application-layer AI capabilities embedded in our products.

Portfolio Expansion & M&A Integration
  • Evaluate acquired and partner technology platforms for architectural fit, integration complexity, and consolidation path.

  • Lead the technical integration of acquisitions — absorbing platforms, teams, and codebases in a way that protects customer continuity and accelerates time-to-value.

  • Make well-grounded build / buy / partner / consolidate decisions that balance near-term business priorities with long-term platform health.

  • Drive platform evolution to support a growing and diversifying product portfolio — from package lockers to access control to commercial security.

Engineering Organization & Leadership Development

  • Build, develop, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across multiple product lines, brands, and teams.

  • Build the management layer beneath you. Recruit, develop, and hold accountable Engineering Managers, Directors, and senior technical leads — creating organizational capacity that does not depend on individual heroics.

  • Establish clear roles, accountability, and a delivery culture that consistently ships with quality and predictability.

  • Champion engineering culture: craft, ownership, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Measure and improve performance against meaningful engineering metrics and use them to drive accountability — not just report on activity.

Platform, Delivery & Executive Leadership

  • Own the scalability, availability, reliability, and performance of Luxer One's SaaS platforms — handling nearly 100 million transactions per year across thousands of locations.

  • Improve development, testing, deployment, and incident management practices to increase speed, quality, and system reliability.

  • Establish device fleet management and MDM capabilities for a deployed fleet of 55,000+ connected devices.

  • Own the security, compliance, disaster recovery, and PCI/PII posture of the engineering organization.

  • Serve as a full member of the executive leadership team — participating in QBRs, planning sessions, and ASSA ABLOY leadership conversations, with P&L-aware accountability and a mandate to operate as a company-level leader, not just the head of a function.

Requirements
What You Need to Bring

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience, including direct management of engineering managers and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated track record of building and scaling an engineering organization — not just running one.

  • Experience leading high-volume, high-availability SaaS or cloud-based platforms, with strong command of modern architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.

  • Experience in environments where software integrates with hardware, firmware, connected devices, or IoT technology.

  • Experience with M&A integration — evaluating, absorbing, or consolidating acquired technology platforms.

  • Strong business and financial acumen — able to connect engineering investment decisions to revenue, margin, and competitive positioning.

  • Experience operating at the executive level: presenting to senior leadership, holding P&L-aligned accountability, and driving decisions across functions.

What Would Make You Stand Out

  • Experience with access control, smart lock, physical security, or connected device technology platforms.

  • Experience managing technology across multiple brands, product lines, or acquired businesses.

  • Experience with IP strategy, patent development, or technology licensing in a hardware-software company.

  • Experience designing or scaling an enterprise-grade API and integration ecosystem.

  • Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) or a comparable operating model.

  • Experience in a division of a large parent company with corporate governance and reporting obligations.

  • Exposure to AI-enabled product development or engineering AI infrastructure.
