VP, Generative Search & Search Engine Optimization

Ignite Visibility is an award-winning national to local mid-sized digital marketing agency with a fully remote team and offices in sunny San Diego, CA and Orlando, FL. We’re seeking a VP, Generative Search & Search Engine Optimization to lead our dual-front strategy in traditional SEO and the rapidly evolving landscape of generative engine optimization (GEO). This leader will refine and execute a modern organic visibility strategy that drives growth across search engines and AI-powered platforms like Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot, Perplexity, ChatGPT, TikTok/Instagram search. This role is pivotal in bridging classical SEO strategies with language model optimization ensuring brand visibility in algorithmic and AI-curated search environments.

The VP, Generative Search & SEO requires a deep understanding of how content and multimedia assets are parsed by LLMs and how to structure narratives for AI-driven content discovery.  

Key Responsibilities

SEO & Generative Search Strategy

• Own and evolve the company’s integrated SEO and GEO strategy to drive measurable growth in organic traffic, AI mentions, brand authority, and conversions.
• Serve as the organization's authority on LLMs, AI search experiences, and evolving search ecosystems (e.g., Search Generative Experience, AI snapshots).
• Leverage AI to help clients succeed in an SEO landscape increasingly shaped by AI-driven interfaces, search generative experiences, and intelligent content delivery.
• Optimize digital and multimedia content assets to improve search visibility for LLM ingestion and output.
• Work cross-functionally to build scalable frameworks for AI-assisted workflow automation, enhancements and LLM assisted task completion.

Reporting & Measurement

• Ensure that AI SEO initiatives are in line with overarching business goals and deliver tangible value to clients.
• Lead R&D on AI’s impact on search behavior, adapting strategies to algorithm shifts (e.g., Google’s SGE, OpenAI-Bing integration).

• Build dashboards/reporting frameworks to communicate performance of SEO/GEO initiatives to executive leadership.
• Define KPIs for LLM visibility, AI mentions, traffic, rankings, and business impact.

Client & Industry Leadership

• Act as a strategic advisor to clients seeking to future-proof their organic traffic and lead in the AI-driven future of search and brand discovery.
• Represent Ignite as a Generative Search & Search Engine Optimization pioneer through whitepapers, webinars, and industry panels.
• Educate teams and clients on AI’s role in search evolution.

Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of SEO Directors, Strategists, and Managers.
• Foster collaboration with social, PR, content, and creative teams to unify AI-driven search discovery efforts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in SEO and Digital Marketing with experience in technical SEO, content strategy, and data analytics.
• 2+ years in generative AI applications, LLM strategy, or experience influencing brand visibility in AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.).
• Strong understanding of how LLMs are trained, how they cite content, and how to influence their outputs.
• Experience with tools like Google Search Console, SEMrush/Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and familiarity with AI prompt testing and model auditing platforms.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams, cross-functional stakeholders, and scaling SEO teams.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills with ability to translate complex AI/SEO concepts into strategic insights tailored to executives and clients.
