About Vori

Vori is building modern technology for the grocery industry. The company serves independent and regional grocers with tools that help them run more efficient, data-driven businesses.

Why this role exists

Vori needs a finance executive who can own both sides of the finance mandate:

  1. External finance leadership — fundraising, debt financing, investor strategy, board narrative, and capital structure.

  2. Internal finance infrastructure — FP&A, cash planning, accounting foundation, reporting cadence, controls, and operating discipline.

This is not a ceremonial CFO role. It is a hands-on company-building role for someone who can operate at the executive level while still building the finance function from the ground up. We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over y-intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Vori, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes big decisions that shape real outcomes.

Mission

The VP, Finance will help Vori make better strategic decisions, raise and allocate capital effectively, and build a finance function that gives the company reliable visibility into performance, runway, and tradeoffs.

The right person will be a trusted partner to the CEO and leadership team, a credible voice with investors and the board, and a builder who can turn messy operating reality into clear financial strategy.

Who you are

You are a hands-on startup VP or CFO-caliber finance leader who has operated in high-growth, venture-backed environments. You have enough strategic finance depth to lead capital markets work and enough operating finance discipline to build the function yourself before the team is large.

You are likely to be a strong fit if you are a:

  • Builder: A proven builder who has created finance functions from scratch with your own hands, without a large team or mature systems. You also show adept, thoughtful, and creative use of AI in your financial craft.

  • Capital Markets Athlete: You have led or materially co-led fundraising with founders and executives. You command respect from capital partners and ensure Vori is an elite steward of other people’s money.

  • FP&A Master: exceptional modeling and quantitative rigor; your math ties out and you can defend every claim line by line

  • Strategic counterweight to founders: you push back with conviction, allocate capital intelligently, and think in multi-year arcs while driving near-term velocity

  • High-IQ, high-EQ, high intensity: you process complexity quickly and move fast with sound judgment

  • High Slope: Low ego, high curiosity which is core to our culture. Practical, high-ownership, customer-aware, and exceptionally clear.

  • Bonus: Complex hardware experience. You understand the economics of a hardware-enabled business — installs, logistics, support burden.

  • Bonus: Investment banking or VC experience. You've been a steward of capital: building models that win investors, evaluating allocations, and credibly communicating the books to capital partners.

What you’ll own
  1. Own the operating model end to end. Forecast what is likely to happen, and quickly understand when reality diverges from that forecast. Build the drivers, scenario logic, and planning cadence. Be able to tear down and rebuild the model quickly.

  2. Know what is happening in the business — fast, and with high confidence. Command unit economics, contribution margin, and payments economics across a complex business (grocery + hardware + AI + payments), with enough accounting fluency to trust the actuals.

  3. Co-lead the raise. Ensure Vori is an elite steward of others' capital. Design the forward narrative, metrics, and capital structure for the Series C and beyond to IPO. Own the board financial package and represent the company credibly to the board, investors, and capital partners (both equity and debt).

  4. Own the financial foundation. Treat our financial infra as a product that you own. Build systems that drive clarity, velocity, and effiency.

  5. Build like an operator. Work with Sales on strategy and help close enterprise deals; work with Product on the roadmap and ship internal tools as needed using AI. Run a smart, automated finance stack so we require less headcount while maintaining rigorous operations.

  6. Raise the company's operating level. Bring bursts of clarity that a sales leader, an engineer, and a board member can all act on — and give the candid feedback that levels the whole team up.

Skills Required

  • Experience as a VP/CFO-caliber finance leader in high-growth, venture-backed startups
  • Proven track record leading or materially co-leading venture fundraising processes
  • Deep expertise in capital markets, valuation, debt, and financing strategy
  • Hands-on FP&A experience: building operating models, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning
  • Experience building and owning accounting, controllership, and finance operations (monthly close, financial statements)
  • Practical experience improving AP, AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and department coding
  • Experience modeling and evaluating M&A, partnerships, or other strategic transactions
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting partners and hiring/structuring small finance teams
  • Proven ability preparing board-level financial packages and investor-facing narratives
  • Experience operating in or supporting SaaS, vertical SaaS, commerce infrastructure, payments, logistics, grocery, retail tech, or similarly operationally complex software businesses

What We Do

Vori is the only modern operating system for the grocery industry, giving small and mid-sized supermarkets a performance edge to compete against retail giants and combat macroeconomic forces such as inflation, the labor crisis, the rise of e-commerce, and supply chain issues. Vori’s grocery OS combines inventory management workflows and a modern point-of-sale system into a single platform, seamlessly connecting data across the food supply chain. By digitizing manual tasks, streamlining operations, and aggregating data into actionable insights, Vori helps grocers make more precise decisions about replenishment buying, retail pricing and margin, product merchandising and promotions, shopper marketing, labor, vendor collaboration, and more. Vori was founded in 2019 in East Palo Alto and is led by Stanford engineers from Space X, Google, and Facebook. Vori proudly boasts a world-class and diverse team with backgrounds in artificial intelligence, machine learning, fintech, logistics, and grocery store operations.
