VP of Finance

Blockworks is a financial media brand that delivers breaking news and premium insights about digital assets to millions of investors. Our content, newsletters, podcasts, and events provide investors with the critical analysis and information they need to make smarter decisions about digital assets.

You’re a seasoned financial leader with a strong philosophy on how finance should be leveraged within startups to make better decisions and grow the business. You’re used to working in a high growth environment and acting as a strategic partner to other functional leaders to help improve their financial acumen and help them maximize growth and profitability.

You care deeply about protecting the bottom line and operating lean, but you also know how to balance that against growth and have a strong hand in commercial decisions. Most importantly, you have an impact oriented approach to finance and understand how to collect and succinctly communicate data to drive outcomes to the bottom line.

As our VP of Finance, you'll be responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of all financial, accounting, and reporting strategies for Blockworks, including full ownership of organizational P&L and cash flow. Reporting directly to one of our co-founders, you'll play an instrumental role in helping us sustainably grow our business, strategically invest our resources, and engage in coaching to make data-driven decisions.

Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like:

• Own Company Wide Financial Operations: You'll develop, solicit feedback, educate, and execute comprehensive financial strategies aligned with Blockwork's overall goals and growth objectives, including, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial planning, financial analysis, and accounting.

• Own Strategic Aspects of Finance Function: You will work alongside other leaders to help inject financial data into their decision making processes. You will leverage your experience running finance within start ups to help allocate resources, drive bottom line results, and make faster and better informed decisions.

• Leverage Data to Support Commercial Operations: In partnership with other leaders at Blockworks, you'll conduct detailed financial modeling and scenario analysis to inform strategy, make better decisions, and avoid operational risk.

• Drive Impact Through Data & Reporting: You'll be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial and operational reporting metrics. You are also responsible for succinctly communicating these to relevant stakeholders and ensuring that they drive impact.

• Investor Relations & Financial Communications: In conjunction with our co-founders, you'll work to ensure all board requests and critical information are addressed promptly and succinctly. Additionally, you will communicate to the leadership and company succinct updates on financial performance.

• Proactively Manage Cash Flow: You'll oversee all cash flow management, optimizing working capital, liquidity, and capital allocation to support ongoing operations and future growth.

• Legal, Compliance, and Policy Design: You'll work to design, implement, and evolve the foundation of our financial operations to ensure legal compliance as we grow.

Experimentation is frequent at Blockworks. Comfortability with being uncomfortable is a must.

Having a deep-seated understanding of leading finance for a 50-150+ size company in the early stages of a fast-growing startup, is a must for this role. You also have several years of direct experience building and leading the Financial function for high-growth technology startups, and are excited to share some of your most impressive results.

Direct experience in the crypto industry is required - knowing about crypto isn't enough, you must have hands-on experience leading finance within a crypto company to understand the unique cyclical nature of the market. You've developed and maintained robust partnerships with your business leaders, and consider yourself a teacher and educator who helps grow the financial awareness of those you partner with. You're an expert at proactively leveraging data in decision-making and never miss an opportunity to bring facts and modeling to decision-making. You're a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing, and you're always looking to share insights or educate. You're detail-oriented and love to operate in a highly autonomous environment.

An in-depth background in raising funds and the supporting processes may also set you apart from other candidates but isn't required. Experience with a token launch and a desire to repeat this journey, will set you apart from other candidates. Lastly, we'd love to have someone with experience who can successfully partner with leaders to grow the financial operations and revenue of an organization on a global scale.

This is a full time exempt position with an expected salary of $250,000/year.
