Job Announcement:
VP of Engineering
Amid clinical workforce shortages, rising healthcare costs and ongoing concerns about inequity, IMPaCT unlocks the power of the grassroots community health workforce.
Here at IMPaCT Care, we get out of bed every day to remake the American health workforce. We find, train and enable Community Health Workers: caring people who keep their communities healthy. We have built the largest and most scientifically-proven Community Health Worker platform in the country, used across 20 states by 50 organizations like Kaiser Permanente, the Veterans Affairs Administration and United Way. Across multiple randomized controlled trials IMPaCT has achieved outcomes frequently believed to be out of reach, including $2,500 annual savings per patient, improved mental health and a Net Promoter Score of 94. We’re making waves: on CNN, in WaPo, at the Fed…there is even a new Medicare billing code for Community Health Workers that is modeled after IMPaCT.
We’re changing the game, but also know the importance of enjoying the journey. That’s why we have made sure that IMPaCT Care is the place to be! We provide competitive compensation and equity grants, comprehensive benefits and plenty of opportunities for team-building and fun. Plus you get to work from home.

Who you are:
You are a hungry, hands-on technical leader who is excited about powering a growing tech-enabled healthcare services startup. You are the ultimate scale-shifter: hands on coding at one moment, and leading company tech strategy the next. You are excited to oversee an on/offshore team who builds and maintains the IMPaCT software application: the secret ingredient to CHW magic at scale. You have successfully navigated the thorny process of EHR integration. You have a strong security mindset. You know where the AI puck is going and can leverage it to create transformative efficiencies.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee a team of 10 engineers who build and support the IMPaCT software application. We have a well-oiled PDLC, strong documentation and capable talent.
- Serve as the primary on-shore production engineer. For instance, you will help triage bug fixes on the prod environment, and support DevOps and Customer Enablement teams in troubleshooting issues with customer data, SSO, or sFTP.
- Guide the design and architecture of all new solutions. Establish, apply, and audit design principles and coding standards to ensure robustness and HIPAA compliance.
- Partner closely with the Product team to translate business requirements into a technical roadmap. Drive project progress via JIRA and take accountability for engineering velocity and documentation quality.
- Be relentless in ensuring that we deliver high quality software and maintain/extend the tooling that tests, monitors, and scales our systems.
- Prioritize, refine, and - most importantly - execute on our technical backlog.
- Lead a small team of security and IT professionals to maintain IMPaCT’s strong security stance, ensure continued SOC2 compliance and successfully complete security reviews for large-scale customer organizations.
- Lead the execution of our EHR interoperability.
- Lead the execution of our Data and Reporting Architecture/Infrastructure
- Ensure the technology budget meets business needs through effective prioritization and optimization. Manage vendor relationships to maximize value and minimize unnecessary spend.
- Guide tech strategy (including AI adoption) with a balance of innovation and fiscal responsibility.
What you bring:
- 3+ years experience in Engineering leadership in the healthcare space, preferably in a startup.
- Experience within our tech stack: AWS-hosted microservice architecture, Java/Springboot, React, PostgreSQL
- Experience implementing integrations between health systems and EHRs.
- Experience with building and supporting cloud-hosted, microservice architectures.
- A security-first mindset with application development and cloud infrastructure.
- Expertise with modern development practices, such as automated testing, IaC, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, unit testing, and vulnerability scanning
- Recent experience and comfort with being an individual contributor.
One of our core values is to create a diverse workplace that welcomes and values each team member’s unique perspective, background, and ideas. We are committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace.
