Position Overview 

With the firm belief that we are people first before becoming patients and should be at the center of the healthcare system, we are looking for a visionary and innovative technology leader who can develop the strategy for the evolution of our technology platform and organization and who can rapidly execute on concrete steps to deliver on growth and scalability capabilities - enabling us to deliver on our mission to democratize healthcare.

The VP of Engineering must be a strategic thinker who can quickly turn strategy into execution tactics to deliver with speed and with demonstrable results. This role will participate in company strategy and vision, along with mentoring and guiding the engineering team to its full potential. The successful candidate will have the experience to manage our product vision through excellence in execution. They will partner with other senior leaders across the company to translate technology capabilities into strategic business decisions while driving accountability and metrics ownership to translate strategy into business results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the overall tech strategy to advance and optimize our platform
  • Define the data strategy and the strategy for our data analytics and AI platform and drive an execution plan/roadmap with iterative value delivery
  • Manage a team of 6-12 engineers with a diverse set of experience levels including managing workload, priorities, career growth and development of each individual
  • Manage Development Operations function and oversee cloud infrastructure
  • Be both a player and coach when/as required
  • Build and foster a culture of engineering excellence, iterative consumer- and customer-centric development with modern software development approaches, and accountability capable of producing best-in-class engineering products with a focus on team, quality, agility, trust, and timely delivery
  • Drive modern engineering principles and practices by implementing relevant techniques, processes, and best practices
  • Establish and maintain metrics, goals, and quality standards
  • Deliver on time and on cost needed capabilities to enable scalable growth
  • Define cross-platform data integration models and migrate select integration pipeline to the new model
  • Build solutions in line with modern and scalable target architectures and a platform services approach.
  • Develop and communicate an execution roadmap and periodic project statuses to all levels of the organization, working closely with product management
  • Tightly engage with product management to develop and present business cases to secure organizational funding and commitment.
  • Ensure operational excellence and software development discipline to enable the organization to continue to deliver solutions on time and on budget, while exceeding consumers’ and customers’ expectations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advances and trends in healthcare and technology, and federal and state legislation to ensure optimal professional effectiveness and competence.

As VP of Engineering, you must have a track record for bringing innovative, strategic, and impactful technology to market. You are creative and deeply resourceful-you are at the forefront of technology and love experimenting with new ways to bring solutions to patients, but you are also performance driven and can show how your team delivers ROI. 

You have:

  • A degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering with a minimum of 5 years in a broad technical leadership role in healthcare leading large cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated history of leadership with the ability to drive the recruitment, development, and performance of a world-class engineering team
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of data management including data pipelines, data transformation, data science and analytics. Deep understanding of the latest tools and architectural patterns
  • Experience in scaling and maintaining mobile technologies and consumer tech products
  • Expertise with modern, large-scale consumer and data engineering using cloud native architectures
  • Experience working in and leading an agile software development organization, and operating in lean product management and delivery processes 
  • Knowledge of security practices, regulations and systems required to manage highly sensitive healthcare data
  • Track record of effectively aligning engineering practices with organizational strategy to deliver business results
  • Experience with modern web development technologies, such as React and React Native
  • Experience with building patient facing and provider facing applications to drive clinically integrated workflows
  • Experience with healthcare data integrations such as EHR data and claims data for example
  • Expert knowledge of technology budgeting processes
  • Expert knowledge of the business of healthcare
  • Exemplary business acumen, executive presence, technical communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build and enhance strategic relationships, and effectively inform all levels of the organization, including the ability to influence and drive results at all levels internally and externally
  • Ability to drive collaborative partnerships especially with product management, and to envision and design solutions to meet market/customer needs
  • Distinguished ability to identify, develop, communicate, implement, and drive process improvements and strategic initiatives
  • Topnotch interpersonal, collaboration, facilitation, project/program management, and negotiation skills
  • Distinguished ability to drive results in a high-performing and high-growth environment
  • Proven track record of leading a high-performing team to achieve aggressive growth targets under budget constraints.
  • Exemplary work ethic, takes the initiative and thinks creatively to get the job done: a go-getter. 
  • A clear understanding of the difference between a leader and a manager.
  • Comfort with a balance of day-to-day execution and high-level strategy across multi-disciplines, a multi-faceted platform, and multi-revenue streams with one common goal.
