General Summary:

As Visual Designer, you will work with the Creative and Production teams to design and execute compelling solutions. Your solutions will stem from collaboration and your visual designs will be intuitive and captivating. This role requires a combination of creativity, technical knowledge, and user-centered thinking.

You will collaborate directly with the Art Director, Visual Designers, Project Managers, print vendors, freelancers, Authors, and Editors, and report to the Art Director. You will also have direct contact with designers from the marketing and product teams.

Core Functions:

  • Use your creative/artistic skills and sensibilities to design and layout music education materials such as long and short form books, catalogs, promos, social media assets, interactive PDFs, custom illustrations, infographics/diagrams, and ads.
  • Create user experiences that will resonate with our key audience: Music Teachers and K-12 Music Students.
  • Be an active member in the cross-functional team by ideating, planning, and executing conceptual designs.
  • Effectively utilize open and collaborative design practices.
  • Articulate design rationale and solutions in a compelling manner based on research and industry best practices.
  • Ensure delivery of digital files to print vendors using standard industry procedures and best practices, carefully review proofs, ensure that trim size, registration, color and layout are within spec.
  • Maintain and archive project files according to departmental procedures and standards.
  • Be the visual brand ambassador in regards to maintaining our brand standards, voice and tone.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience as a cross functional Creative, at a Creative Agency, with an In-House Design Team, or related environment.
  • Expert level knowledge of the Adobe Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
  • Comprehensive understanding of efficient visual design principles, process and fundamentals.
  • Ability to properly set up files for both print and digital output.
  • Contribute to collaborative discussions and healthy team debate.

    • Understands and respects differing points of view with patience and empathy
    • Practices active listening by paying close attention to what is being said, asking clarifying questions, and responding appropriately.
    • Actively participate in design reviews with a focus on thoughtful and constructive feedback.
    • Ability to take art direction from peers and grow from the collaborative design process.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate both in person and remotely via email, Slack and Zoom.
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to accurately scope work and adhere to multiple project timelines, while upholding best practices.
  • Ability to create original illustrations or manipulate existing illustrative elements.
  • A portfolio that reflects your ability to solve a variety of print and digital design challenges.
  • Ownership/Accountability: You are responsible for the accuracy and quality of the design by ensuring that it is void of mistakes.
  • Detail-oriented, conscientious, resourceful, and reliable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of music fundamentals.
  • Basic knowledge of the Google Workspace.
  • Basic knowledge of Asana project planning and tracking.
  • Illustration (traditional and application based).
  • The ability and desire to contribute to the growth of the creative team by providing guidance and mentorship.
  • While this role is primarily based in print design, there may be at times opportunities that would utilize additional skill sets: storyboarding, wireframing, prototyping, interface design and branding.

Benefits

Compensation:

Peaksware/TrainingPeaks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $51,395 - $85,659. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.

This role is eligible for variable compensation, including bonus.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment that is well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned with adequate ventilation and a noise level that is usually moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
