Video Programming Coordinator

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Video Programming Coordinator, based at WSJ headquarters in New York, to help strategically schedule and place video content across platforms.

You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom, with work that includes breaking and daily news, and feature and enterprise stories.

The ideal candidate will be strategy-minded, collaborative and exceptionally organized. You have a deep understanding of both on-site platform needs and off-site platforms, and the ability to track and translate analytics into actionable insights

You will:
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across coverage areas, programming and SEO to program and place video content.

  • Coordinate cross-team workflows to streamline output and ensure content aligns with video-specific best practices and platform shifts.

  • Partner with external platform representatives to consistently work on best practices and bespoke per-platform needs

  • Track and translate analytics trends (CTR, retention, velocity, V7/V30, etc.) into actionable insights and performance reviews.

  • Partner with producers and journalists to provide pitch feedback and story development guidance to ensure editorial work connects with audience behavior.

  • Oversee A/B testing and video packaging, including titling, thumbnail direction and metadata

  • Partner with video leadership, strategy, product and audience teams to develop distinctive video formats that resonate with audiences.

  • Build relationships with the global newsroom in order to develop a more video-forward way of thinking.

  • Constantly evaluate our video journalism with an eye for building new methods of storytelling.

You have:
  • An expert knowledge of a wide range of video formats and distribution channels and a finger on the pulse of industry trends.

  • Deep and intimate understanding of how online video algorithms work, with an exceptional ability to crack these algorithms and achieve audience growth across YouTube, TikTok and other social platforms.

  • Extensive programming experience and demonstrable knowledge of video platforms best practice, such as optimizing video titles, descriptions, hashtags and thumbnails.

  • An extensive understanding of video analytics, with an ability to explain why a video did or didn’t perform well.

  • The ability to break down data and analytics and glean insights

  • Excellent editorial judgment and communication skills

  • A sharp eye for stories that resonate with WSJ’s audience

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment across many coverage areas and departments

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing how you would do the job by August 14th. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we encourage early submission as the position may be filled before the deadline.
