Overview
The Lab Assistant - Academic Planning & Assistance is a vital, dual-role position combining
academic support within the studio/media production field with non-academic
responsibilities focused on the operation, maintenance, and output of the college's studio
facilities. The successful candidate will be proficient in both instruction/student support and
professional media production workflows.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Head of Department (HOD), Media Science
Key Responsibilities
The duties are categorized into three main areas: Academic assistance, Studio Operations &
Maintenance, and Event & Administrative Support.
I. Academic Planning & Assistance
● Teaching/Instructional Support: Conduct practical classes, workshops, and lab
sessions as required, focusing on media production equipment, software, and
techniques (e.g., camera operation, lighting, audio recording, editing).
● Faculty Assistance: Provide comprehensive technical and logistical assistance to
faculty members during lecture, theory, and practical classes.
● Student Project Support: Offer expert technical guidance, assistance, and
resources to students undertaking academic projects, dissertations, and assignments
related to media production.
II. Studio Operations & Maintenance
● Equipment Management: Perform routine and preventative maintenance, calibration,
and troubleshooting of all Inspiria studio equipment, including cameras, audio gear,
lighting systems, and computing hardware. Ensure all equipment is organized,
inventoried, and in functional condition.
● Recording Support: Act as a key crew member (e.g., Camera Operator, Audio
Engineer, Lighting Assistant) to assist with video shooting and audio recording sessions
for college-related content.
● Post-Production: Execute the complete post-production workflow for college
content, including major outputs like Inspiria TV.
● Specialized Content Production: Execute video shoot and post-production for
various specialized formats, including Podcasts, talk shows, Demo classes,
Webinars, and other institutional content.
III. Event & Administrative Support
● Event Coverage: Actively assist the video coverage team by shooting and/or editing
content for events held both inside and outside of the college campus.
● Documentation/Admin: Generate and manage certificates for various departments as
needed.
Essential Qualifications & Skill Set
● Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Media
Studies, Film Production, or a related field.
● Technical Proficiency: Mandatory and high proficiency in the Adobe Creative
Cloud suite, specifically:
○ Adobe Photoshop
○ Adobe Lightroom
○ Adobe Premiere Pro
○ Adobe After Effects,etc.,
○ DaVinci Resolve (or equivalent professional video/color grading software)
● Practical Experience: Proven experience in operating professional video/DSLR
cameras, audio recording devices, and studio lighting setups.
● Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication
skills, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Film Production, or related field
- High proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
- Proficiency with DaVinci Resolve or equivalent professional video/color grading software
- Proven experience operating professional video/DSLR cameras, audio recording devices, and studio lighting setups
- Experience executing full post-production workflows for video content (editing, color grading, deliverables)
- Ability to perform routine and preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of studio equipment
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with faculty, staff, and students
