The Role
Develop exam-aligned curriculum and resources (workbooks, homework packs, practice exams, solutions) for Victorian Selective Entry in Maths, English or Writing. Summary Generated by Built In

Shape the core curriculum behind the Victorian Selective Entry program and take direct ownership of resources that drive student breakthroughs.

Contour TestPrep is seeking sharp, meticulous individuals to join us as a part time VSE Curriculum & Resource Developer (approximately 0.6 FTE), with hiring open across three dedicated streams: Mathematics, English, and Writing. In this role, you will look beyond standard content writing to produce, refine, and align the high-impact workbooks, homework packs, practice exams, and comprehensive worked solutions our students rely on. You will work directly from strategic plans set by the Head of VSE, transforming them into exam-aligned educational materials that maximize learning velocity.

This position carries a unique, broader responsibility than typical content roles, offering a direct pathway to an ongoing position for high performers. To keep your work deeply grounded in real-time student outcomes, you will continue teaching at least one VSE class in your subject stream for the duration of the secondment (compensated separately as a tutor). This structural feedback loop empowers you to serve as your own calibration mechanism, ensuring every piece of content performs flawlessly on the ground.

Who We Are

At Contour, we’re reshaping education, one student at a time.

Born from the frustration of students who knew the system could be better, we set out to build what we once wished existed: tutoring that actually works. Not generic classes. Not recycled notes. Not overpriced, overcrowded rooms with an out-of-touch teacher who couldn’t relate. But a complete ecosystem of tutoring, resources, and support, meticulously designed to help every student reach their full potential.

Since 2020, over 10,000+ students have trusted Contour to guide their academic journey, and we’ve grown to over 300+ team members. We’ve produced hundreds of 99+ ATARs, tutored the World-Record UCAT scorer, and placed more students into medical school than any school in Australia.

Our growth is a testament to the simple philosophy: Put the student first, always. Everything we design, from our world-class tutor-training programs to our purpose-built campuses, exists to help students master content faster, perform with confidence, and even rekindle the joy of learning.

Contour is a group of three brands united by one goal: to give every student the best chance to achieve their full potential:

  • Contour Education: Reshaping how students master their high school subjects with small-group tutoring, structured resources, and 1-on-1 support across Maths, Science, and English.
  • Contour Medprep: Reshaping medical preparation with a proven, step-by-step pathway through the UCAT, interviews, and admissions, led by a team of 100+ medical students.
  • Contour TestPrep: Reshaping test preparation, starting with the selective entry exam, through rigorous tutoring, mock exams, and data-driven feedback to give students a decisive advantage.

This is Contour. Built by students, for students.

What You Will Do

You will be responsible to design, calibrate, and quality-assure elite, exam-aligned learning resources for your chosen subject (Mathematics, English, or Writing) while maintaining a direct, real-time connection to the classroom.

Resource production and workflow

  • Produce premium workbooks, homework packs, practice questions, and complete worked solutions from blueprints provided by the Head of VSE.
  • Follow our structured production workflow from initial question drafting through to review, feedback iterations, and final sign-off.
  • Deliver all assigned materials consistently ahead of schedule to ensure seamless deployment across our classrooms.
  • Communicate proactively with academic leadership regarding project timelines, tracking milestones, and expected delivery schedules.

Exam alignment and calibration

  • Match question styles, command verbs, and stimulus materials precisely to what students encounter in the official exam.
  • Calibrate question difficulty levels to accurately mirror or appropriately extend the selective entry exam standards.
  • Ensure comprehensive coverage of relevant skills and content specific to the targeted year levels and exam subtests.
  • Identify and raise any potential curriculum gaps or resource misalignments directly with the Head of VSE.

Quality assurance and error resolution

  • Conduct rigorous proofreading to verify the absolute accuracy of facts, underlying logic, and subject calculations.
  • Cross-check newly generated questions against existing source materials and tracking sheets to strictly prevent content duplication.
  • Take full quality ownership of published resources, promptly and proactively resolving any identified errors via dedicated subject channels.
  • Address review feedback efficiently, submitting polished content revisions within 48 hours of receiving notes.

Classroom connection and feedback

  • Teach at least one VSE class for the duration of the secondment to observe first-hand how your materials perform in a live environment.
  • Use classroom observations to identify exactly where resources engage students or where instructions break down.
  • Feed real-time classroom insights back into resource design to continuously upgrade overall curriculum effectiveness.
  • Participate actively in subject-specific meetings to stay aligned on overall teaching strategies and shifting exam trends.

What You Will Bring
  • Demonstrated experience in tutoring, academic content writing, or resource development.
  • A background of exceptional academic performance in Mathematics, English, or Writing (ideally with a recent selective entry or equivalent high-level exam background).
  • Familiarity with digital collaboration workflows, source-tracking spreadsheets, or communication platforms like Slack.
  • Strong process discipline, with the ability to follow rigid content templates and implement editorial feedback cycles efficiently.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in your chosen discipline (Maths, English, or Writing) with the ability to build clear, multi-step solutions.
  • Advanced technical accuracy, with a sharp eye for identifying subtle errors in spelling, grammar, logic, or complex calculations.
  • A thorough understanding of the Victorian Selective Entry exam format, question types, and student expectations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a genuine pride in producing clean, well-structured, and logical work.
  • Extreme reliability, exceptional time management skills, and a strong commitment to hitting tight production deadlines.
  • A coachable and growth-minded attitude, with a desire to actively seek constructive feedback and develop toward greater role autonomy.

Why You Will Love It
  • Receive direct mentorship from the Head of VSE and senior academic leaders to rapidly accelerate your curriculum design skills.
  • Gain a clear, structured pathway to transition into an ongoing Curriculum & Resource Developer position as our organization expands.
  • Enjoy the unique opportunity to test your own creations in real-time in the classroom, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
  • Work within a flexible, hybrid environment that respects your personal, university, or teaching schedules during the secondment.
  • Earn a competitive pro-rata salary based on $80,000 AUD per annum @ 0.6 FTE in an ongoing role (with classroom teaching compensated separately as a tutor), plus hybrid flexibility and lifestyle perks.
