We are partnering with a leading insurance organization to hire a Vice President Underwriting - Liabilities to support the growth and management of their Casualty, Financial Lines, and Medical Malpractice portfolio. This role is suited for an experienced underwriting professional with strong technical expertise in complex liability risks and a proven ability to drive profitable portfolio growth.


The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the liability portfolio through disciplined underwriting, strategic broker engagement, and effective risk assessment. Working closely with internal teams and market partners, the role will contribute to portfolio development, underwriting governance, and long-term business strategy.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Drive the growth of the Liability portfolio across Casualty, Financial Lines, and Medical Malpractice through targeted business development and market engagement
  • Identify and pursue new underwriting opportunities that align with the organization’s risk appetite and portfolio strategy
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to secure high-quality new business
  • Conduct detailed underwriting assessments of complex liability risks, ensuring appropriate risk selection and pricing accuracy
  • Structure coverage terms, conditions, and limits based on risk profile and prevailing market conditions
  • Serve as a key technical contact for brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly while providing insights on market conditions and portfolio performance
  • Ensure underwriting activities comply with regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and governance standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation and disciplined underwriting practices
  • Monitor liability market trends and competitor activity to inform underwriting strategies
  • Contribute to portfolio analysis, planning, and product development initiatives
  • Prepare underwriting reports, risk assessments, and portfolio performance updates for management


Key Requirements:


  • 8–10 years of underwriting experience in Liability lines
  • Strong technical expertise across Casualty, Financial Lines, and Medical Malpractice
  • Experience working within established insurance or reinsurance environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field
  • Professional certifications such as ACII, CPCU, or equivalent are preferred
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to contribute to portfolio profitability and P&L performance
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong broker and client relationships
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities with the ability to assess complex risks
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to combine portfolio planning with hands-on underwriting execution
