BMO Capital Markets/Global Markets Engineering seeking a candidate with experience in the architecture, design, buildout and deployment of electronic trading systems, particularly in the Fixed Income space, preferably encompassing real-time risk/PnL processing and display, price contribution, customer inquiry negotiation and straight-through processes.

We seek an intermediate-to-experienced candidate: 5+ years experience/VP-level would be preferred.

Undergraduate/advanced degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics (including Mathematical Finance) or Physics would be heavily valued.

Ideal candidate would have proficiency in:

  • C++
  • C#
  • React/Javascript web development
  • Oracle and SQL Server Database

Note that an outstanding candidate could overcome a lack in one or more of the above proficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Director, responsible for the buildout of electronic bond trading for the Global Credit desks
  • Filling in functionality gaps present in our existing electronic trading systems
  • Ownership of the electronic trading components built, including production/realtime support
  • Ongoing, direct communication with trading and sales desks with respect to gaps, further functionality, prioritization and timelines

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of FIX protocol
  • Experience with Windows Presentation Foundation
  • Basic Python knowledge
  • Real-time messaging
  • Basic bond trading concepts, or the ability to pick them up quickly

    “Soft” skills:

    • Confer directly with trading desks on requirements, learning enough about the business (workflows, product types, etc.) to gain ability to infer requirements
    • Able to accomplish component buildout in as independent a manner as possible
    • Communication skills are paramount; successful candidate will be communicating with savvy but non-technical users and will need to be able to present findings and communications as such.

    Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
