VP of Engineering
As the VP of Engineering at Doma, you will own our engineering platform end to end, partnering closely with data science and machine learning to build and scale the real time decision engine at the center of our product. You will lead a team of 10+ engineers based in the Bay Area and report directly to the CEO.
You'll measure success by how much faster, more reliable, and more automated you make an industry that has run on manual, paper based review for decades. Today, verifying that a property can be insured for title takes days or weeks of manual record review, with inconsistent outcomes and data spread across thousands of fragmented sources. You will replace that process with software: ingesting messy public records, documents, and outside data, applying proprietary risk models built on 100,000+ policies, and shipping a production system already approved by Fannie Mae and live in real mortgage transactions today.
Doma has grown from $3M in revenue in 2024 to $15M in 2025, and is tracking to $25 to $50 million in 2026, real, sustained growth in a down market. Your mandate is to materially increase engineering velocity and ship the AI systems Doma needs to maintain that lead.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including leading and scaling a team of 10 or more engineers
- What's relevant?
- AI/ML platforms: you've shipped production systems that rely on machine learning or agentic automation, not just prototypes
- Regulated, financially significant transactions: fintech, proptech, or insurtech experience where your software plugged directly into a customer's financial decision
- Startup environments: Series A through growth stage, where you've operated with little direction and owned ambiguous problems end to end
- Strengths aligned with our needs
- Ownership: comfortable owning a platform end to end and reporting directly into the CEO
- Technical depth: able to go deep with data science and ML partners on the core decision engine, not manage from a distance
- Data infrastructure: experience solving real world problems around fragmented records, scraping, ingestion, and reliability at scale
- Velocity: can materially increase engineering speed without sacrificing reliability in a regulated industry
- Communication: can align a small, senior team around a fast moving roadmap and keep data science, ML, and engineering in sync
Shown below is the lowest to highest base salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the base salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. At Doma, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
