Job Summary
Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is looking for an enthusiastic, well-qualified individual to fill the VDI Engineer position. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented group of individuals committed to driving success.
The ideal candidate will design, engineer, and integrate secure virtual desktop and virtualized system environments in classified and unclassified networks. This role analyzes mission and user requirements, develops virtual system architectures, and provides technical leadership across the virtual systems engineering lifecycle to ensure performance, security, and operational effectiveness.
The VDI Engineer serves as a key technical interface with government stakeholders and program teams, ensuring the technical integrity of virtualized solutions and successful integration into ongoing DIA operations.
Key Responsibilities
The VDI Engineer will:
- Analyze user requirements, CONOPS documents, and high-level system architectures to develop virtual system requirements specifications
- Analyze system requirements and lead design and development activities for VDI and virtualized environments
- Guide users in requirements formulation, recommend alternative technical approaches, and conduct feasibility studies
- Provide technical leadership for the integration of virtualization requirements, system design, and enabling technologies
- Incorporate new virtual system designs and capabilities into existing operational environments
- Develop and maintain virtual system architecture and system design documentation
- Guide system development and implementation planning, including Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), System Integration and Test Plans for virtualized environments
- Interface with government stakeholders regarding virtualization engineering considerations, risks, and issues
- Ensure the technical integrity of all work products and deliverables associated with the Virtual Systems Engineering scope
- Communicate technical status, risks, and recommendations to Program personnel, Government overseers, Senior executives
- Support troubleshooting and optimization of VDI performance, availability, and scalability
- Ensure virtualization solutions comply with DoD and IC security and operational requirements
Skills and Experience
The VDI Engineer must have:
- Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance
- 8+ years of experience engineering and supporting Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and virtualized environments within Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) environments
- Strong knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) architectures, Systems engineering lifecycle (SELC) processes, and Requirements analysis and traceability
- Experience developing Virtual system architecture and design documentation and Integration and test plans for virtual environments
- Experience with virtualization platforms and technologies, including one or more of the following Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), and VMware virtualization solutions
- Experience supporting enterprise or classified virtual desktop environments
- Familiarity with Performance tuning and optimization, Capacity planning, and High-availability and fault-tolerant VDI architectures
- Experience leading technical teams and coordinating engineering efforts across multiple functional areas
- Willingness to support after-hours or on-call operations as required
Education and Certifications
The VDI Engineer must meet the following:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
Preferred
- IAT II–level certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE)
- Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA-V)
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or equivalent industry certification
- Must be compliant with DoD 8140 certification and training requirements

Security Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.
