Who Are We Looking For?

The design team is seeking a mid-level Product Designer who will be comfortable with the many facets of the design process, including root cause investigation, research synthesis, brainstorming, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and the fundamentals of product design.

You will work with senior members of the team while helping balance the needs of the business with the needs of our users. Requirements

The Necessities

  • Degree in Design, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience as a Product or User Experience Designer for complex digital products and systems across mobile and web platforms.
  • An obsession with Figma.
  • A portfolio that showcases deep problem‑solving, strong design principles, and excellent visual/UI design with consistent excellence in craft and quality.
  • Deep understanding of the design thinking process, from discovery and problem framing through delivery and iteration.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex workflows into clear, intuitive user journeys.
  • Systems-thinking mindset, able to identify and communicate potential downstream UX, operational, and technical implications of design decisions with support and constructive. feedback from senior designers and cross-functional collaborators.
  • Familiarity with building, maintaining, publishing, and documenting component libraries and design systems. 
  • Familiarity designing and maintaining content patterns and microcopy within a design system (labels, tooltips, error states, helper text) to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration with Product Managers and Engineers.
  • High-fidelity wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing experience.
  • Familiarity with or strong ambition to learn how to work across multiple products and codebases, maintaining coherence with shared patterns and a unified design system.
  • Familiarity with research best practices such as user interviews, surveys, and product analytics (e.g., event tracking), and using insights to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Comfort using AI tools in the design process and applying judgment about when and how to rely on them.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  • Experience presenting your work to project stakeholders.

The Extras  

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in financial services or fintech is a plus but not required.
  • Low-ego, highly collaborative teammate who values shared success.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS.
  • Basic familiarity with Confluence, Jira, and Github.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • ADA / WCAG compliance experience.

The role will be based in the New York City office, and will be part of Vestwell's hybrid in-office operation.
The expected base salary range for this position is $105K - $125K base. This position is eligible to participate in the Company Bonus Pool and is eligible to receive new hire equity in the Company. Please note that salary bands are based on NY and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.

Next steps can vary by role, but the usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an Engineer, a portfolio review for a Designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in-person interview panel after that if the screens go well. Before making an offer, our interview process concludes with a references check stage for your recruiter to meet with a current or former supervisor and peer. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
