About MUBI

MUBI is a global streaming service, production company and film distributor dedicated to elevating great cinema. To make this possible, we create, curate, acquire and champion visionary films, bringing them to audiences all over the world. We have a team of brilliant, dedicated and passionate people to help bring our mission to life. From London to New York, Istanbul to Paris, and Berlin to Mexico - we work together to realize MUBI’s vision.

That’s where you come in! Join our global team and help us make great cinema accessible to everyone, everywhere.

The role

We are looking for a talented and driven Mid-weight UI/UX Designer to join our small, yet highly impactful Product Team. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience and interface across MUBI's diverse portfolio of products, ensuring they are not only intuitive and user-friendly but also exemplify the highest standards of craft and execution that our discerning audience expects.

We are looking for a designer with a strong foundation in both UX and UI, coupled with a passion for film and the MUBI brand. This is a chance to have significant ownership and see your work directly impact how film lovers around the globe discover, engage with, and appreciate great cinema.

This role is based out of our Central London HQ. We operate on a hybrid working model at MUBI, where we come together for 3 core days per week - Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

Where you'll have impact:
  • Designing across the MUBI Ecosystem: Working on a wide range of products including MUBI’s core streaming service and film database, Notebook magazine, MUBI GO app, MUBI Editions, MUBI Shop, and various theatrical release and campaign websites.

  • Leading Feature Development: Taking ownership of features from initial ideation and wireframing through to high-fidelity design, prototyping, user testing, and final implementation.

  • Elevating the User Experience: Focusing on key user journeys, particularly around film discovery, consideration, and engagement, to create seamless and delightful experiences for a passionate audience of film enthusiasts.

  • Collaborating for Success: Working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Product Analysts, and other stakeholders (such as Marketing and Programming/Editorial) to translate requirements into effective design solutions and ensure successful feature releases.

  • Contributing to our Design System: Actively improving and maintaining our design library to ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all products. You'll be instrumental in the continuous build of our design system and will contribute to its DNA, so you should be comfortable working with a system that isn't a ready-to-use toolkit just yet

What you will bring:
  • Excellent UI and Visual Design Craft: A strong portfolio showcasing proficiency in visual design including typography, layout, color theory, iconography, and a keen aesthetic sense. You understand how visual design directly impacts product function and user perception.

  • Proven UX Design Experience: Demonstrated ability to tackle complex user problems, define user flows, create wireframes and prototypes. You should have a track record of designing intuitive and effective experiences based on user needs and business goals. (Approximately 3-5 years of relevant experience is typically associated with a Mid-weight role).

  • Strong Interaction Design Skills: Ability to define how an experience should behave, considering user psychology, usability principles, and scalability.

  • Proficiency in Design Tools: Expertise in Figma (including components, variants, and prototyping) is essential. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop) is also required. You should be comfortable using appropriate prototyping tools to effectively communicate design interactions.

  • Clear Communication and Presentation Skills: Ability to articulate design decisions, goals, and concepts clearly and persuasively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • A Creative and Iterative Mindset: The ability to think creatively, explore multiple design solutions, and iterate based on feedback and data.

When reviewing portfolios, we're looking out for an end to end design experience - we want to see you demonstrate detailing the problems you've solved with critical design thinking, alongside the visual design work to accompany it, especially as UX and UI design skills are equally as important for this role.

Bonus expertise:
  • Experience designing for streaming services, editorial platforms, or e-commerce.

  • Familiarity with user research methodologies.

  • Basic understanding of front-end development

We want to make cinema accessible to everyone. We believe people from different backgrounds bring different ideas that foster innovation and engagement, allowing us to attract great people to develop the best experience for our users.
