Niantic's Player Platform UX Design team is hiring a UX Designer to craft innovative, social experiences beyond the core game—helping millions of players discover content and engage with each other both online and in the physical world.

We’re looking for someone who champions the needs of our players, blending intuition with data-driven insights to create seamless and engaging experiences. You’ll design intuitive end-to-end flows, craft thoughtful visual design, and build prototypes that bring ideas to life. As a skilled storyteller, you’ll translate complex use cases into simple, scalable solutions, while maintaining a high attention to detail in your work.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with engineers, product managers, and other creative professionals in an agile, team-oriented environment. You infuse fresh ideas with established design patterns, present your work clearly and confidently, and value feedback as part of an iterative process.

If you’re interested in helping craft the future of real-world interactive experiences, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities
  • Lead UX design efforts from concept to implementation for one or more player-facing experiences.
  • Develop wireframes, appealing mockups, prototypes, and detailed design documentation to clearly describe interaction flows and design concepts.
  • Clearly communicate ideas and UX designs to team members, external partners, and leadership through prototypes and presentations.
  • Actively participate in team rituals to conceptualize and brainstorm new features.
  • Improve and extend existing design system patterns.
  • Incorporate user research and player insights into all stages of design exploration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and partners, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
  • Required in-office minimum 2 days — Wednesday plus one additional team-designated day.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years or equivalent experience in UX design, with a portfolio showcasing projects across mobile applications and responsive web.
  • Experience using Figma and creating high-fidelity prototypes with a prototyping tool of your choice.
  • Familiarity with mobile UX design patterns applied in gaming, fitness, or activity-related experiences.
  • Experience designing implementation-ready UX mockups and flows for the purposes of dev implementation.
  • Strong visual design skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop novel UX patterns as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including asynchronous interactions with others.
Plus if you have...
  • Knowledge and experience with HTML/CSS
  • Familiarity with motion design or animation
  • Proficiency in Japanese
