UST Compliance Specialist

Full-Time  |  Non-Exempt, Hourly  |  Reports to the Fuel Facilities UST Compliance Manager  |  Remote — FL, NC, MA, IL, TX, or AZ  |  Compensation commensurate with experience

You would run storage tank compliance programs for the companies that own the tanks — as their team, not as an outside consultant handing over a report.

A NOTE ON TIMING

This is a standing posting, not a specific open seat. Pinnacle adds people to this function as client programs grow, and we would rather know who you are before we need you than start a search from zero.

We read every application. When a seat opens that fits you, we reach out. That may be a matter of weeks or it may be several months — we will tell you honestly where things stand rather than leave you guessing.

ABOUT PINNACLE

Founded in 1995, Pinnacle Environmental Management Support was one of the first firms in our industry to build a purpose-built platform for enterprise claims management — encoding institutional knowledge into software when most of our peers were still passing spreadsheets around.

Three decades later, we're fifty-five people trusted by the largest names in fuel retail, energy, and environmental services. Our competitors regularly tell us they can't match our technology. We take that as both a compliment and a responsibility.

We take our work seriously. We also believe people should enjoy where they work and who they work with. That balance matters here.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

The compliance specialist is the operational core of a storage tank program. Inspections, release detection, vendor dispatch, and deficiency closure all run through this seat. When it sits empty the effects compound — a missed testing window becomes a suspected release, which triggers reporting, which demands investigation, and every week of vacancy makes the recovery more expensive.

Pinnacle delivers this function as a managed service, so it never goes dark. Our clients rely on us to arrive with the certifications, platform fluency, and vendor relationships already in hand rather than spending six to twelve months building them. That is why we keep this posting open — the work does not pause for a hiring cycle.

WHAT YOU'D OWN

  • Regulatory Inspections & Agency Interaction: You are the person the state calls. You coordinate inspections, assemble the compliance packet, and drive notices of violation to documented closure.
  • Release Detection & Testing Oversight: You confirm every tank and line carries passing monthly results, troubleshoot what doesn't, and handle suspected release reporting inside the required window.
  • Vendor Coordination & Activity Management: You manage compliance activities from creation to closure, chase contractors for the documentation that closes them, and triage what needs a truck from what doesn't.
  • Site Lifecycle & Project Compliance: You track new sites, remodels, acquisitions, closures, and construction escalations — confirming each site and tank is registered, configured, and documented correctly.
  • Client Communication & Data Integrity: You own the day-to-day relationship with your client contacts and keep site-level records accurate in their compliance platform.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

The best candidates think in outcomes, not tasks. On a new portfolio, here is what the first 90 days look like:

  • Portfolio command: You know your sites, tanks, states, and deadlines well enough to answer a client question without looking it up first.
  • A full inspection-readiness pass: Every assigned site reviewed against its state's requirements, with the gaps written down and prioritized rather than discovered during an inspection.
  • Open activity backlog triaged: Everything inherited is assessed, dispatched, or closed — nothing sitting quietly past its due date.
  • Operator certification underway: Class A and Class B certification obtained or in progress for every state you cover.
  • Vendor relationships established: Your contractors know who you are, what you expect, and how quickly you expect it.
  • Client contacts oriented: The people you support know who you are, what you own, and how to reach you.

HOW WE HIRE

Pinnacle hires around five values: Aspire, Navigate, Lead, Build, and Summit. If that language feels like something you'd want to live by, this role will make sense to you.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Reads a regulation and applies it, rather than citing it and waiting for direction
  • Follows a vendor to closure without being reminded
  • Is comfortable being the person a regulator calls, and steady in that conversation
  • Documents while working rather than reconstructing afterward
  • Holds a deadline that cannot move without losing composure or accuracy
  • Escalates the things that genuinely need escalating and handles the rest
  • Enjoys being part of a team and contributing to a positive environment

WHO THIS ROLE ISN'T FOR

Pinnacle is not the right fit for everyone, and this role is more specific than most:

  • This is not the role for someone who wants to assess a site and hand off a recommendation. You own the outcome, not the report.
  • This is not the role for someone who wants a single site or a single state. You will carry a multi-state portfolio and switch between rule sets constantly.
  • This is not the role for someone who needs predictable hours with no interruptions. The spill response rotation is real, and so are inspection dates.
  • It is the role for someone who takes real satisfaction in a portfolio that is clean, current, and ready for an inspector on any given day.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are not required. They are the kinds of experience we'd love you to highlight if you have them:

  • Class A and Class B operator certification in one or more states
  • Experience managing a multi-site underground storage tank portfolio
  • Familiarity with Titan or a comparable compliance platform
  • Working relationships with state agency inspection and compliance staff

HOW TO APPLY

Submit your resume and a thoughtful cover letter at pinnacleems.com/careers. Because this is a standing posting, there is no closing date — apply when it suits you.

In your cover letter, please tell us:

Tell us about a site or portfolio you brought back into compliance. What was wrong when you inherited it, what you did, and how you knew it was actually fixed. If the answer is that you flagged it for someone else, we are probably not the right fit.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Compensation commensurate with experience
  • Paid Time Off & Holiday Pay
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Investment in your continued development through relevant certifications and structured learning

This role is remote. We ask that you reside in Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, or Arizona, and we expect in-person attendance for the meetings and functions where it matters.
