Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Used Car Manager to oversee all aspects of our used vehicle operations. This position is responsible for acquiring, appraising, pricing, merchandising, and managing used inventory to maximize sales, profitability, inventory turn, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has strong automotive retail experience, excellent knowledge of the used vehicle market, and the ability to make sound inventory and appraisal decisions in a fast-paced dealership environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the dealership's used vehicle inventory from acquisition and appraisal through sale, including inventory aging, pricing, merchandising, and disposition.
  • Appraise customer trade-ins and purchased vehicles accurately using market data, vehicle condition, history, reconditioning needs, and current inventory demand.
  • Develop and maintain competitive pricing strategies based on market conditions, vehicle supply, demand, and dealership objectives.
  • Monitor inventory levels, days' supply, turn rates, gross profit, and aging to maximize profitability and minimize aged inventory.
  • Work closely with the Sales, Service, Parts, and Detail departments to ensure vehicles are properly reconditioned and brought to market quickly.
  • Establish appropriate reconditioning plans and monitor costs and completion timelines to ensure vehicles are retail-ready.
  • Review used vehicle inventory daily and make recommendations regarding pricing adjustments, wholesale disposition, and aged inventory.
  • Manage vehicle purchases through customer trades, direct purchases, auctions, and other approved acquisition channels.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records, pricing, costs, and inventory information within the dealership management system.
  • Work with the sales team to effectively present and sell used inventory, including providing product knowledge, pricing guidance, and sales support.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor pricing, vehicle demand, and industry developments to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Assist with setting and achieving used vehicle sales, gross profit, and inventory turn objectives.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly photographed, described, displayed, and marketed across approved sales channels.
  • Maintain compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, applicable laws, and regulatory standards.
  • Train, coach, and hold team members accountable for performance, customer service, inventory processes, and dealership standards.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and promote a positive, team-oriented dealership environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous automotive dealership experience required; used vehicle management or sales management experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to appraise, acquire, price, and merchandise used vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of used vehicle market conditions, auction values, and vehicle reconditioning costs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventory while achieving sales and profitability objectives.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze market data and use technology and dealership systems effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

Requirements

 Minimum 2–3 years of automotive dealership experience, with used vehicle management, sales management, or appraisal experience strongly preferred. 

  • Proven experience appraising, acquiring, pricing, and merchandising used vehicles
  • Strong knowledge of used vehicle market values, auction processes, vehicle condition, and reconditioning costs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, including aging, pricing, turn rate, and profitability
  • Strong understanding of automotive sales processes, dealership operations, and gross profit objectives
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to interpret market and inventory data
  • Ability to work effectively with Sales, Service, Parts, and other dealership departments. 
  • Proficiency with dealer management systems (DMS), inventory management tools, and online automotive marketplaces
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, performance-driven environment
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. 

Preferred: Experience managing a used vehicle operations and a demonstrated track record of achieving used vehicle sales, gross profit, and inventory turn objectives
