Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to solve complex problems. They will champion engineering excellence through design reviews, innovation, and continuous improvement, while maintaining high standards of quality, security, and operational efficiency.
About the team:
The Data Services team designs and manages scalable, highly available distributed SQL and NoSQL platforms supporting enterprise applications. Specializing in backend engineering, API development, site reliability, and DevOps automation, the team ensures platform stability and continuous enhancement. Leveraging automation and AI-assisted engineering, it drives operational excellence and innovation. The team collaborates closely with product, infrastructure, and operations groups, upholding Walmart’s core values of integrity, respect, service, and excellence while fostering technical expertise, ownership, and alignment with business goals.
What you'll do:

• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure quality and alignment with architectural standards.
• Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features using multiple programming languages.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.

What you'll bring:

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
• Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
• Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
• Ability to integrate AI/ML components and develop intelligent automation using languages such as Python, JavaScript, and C++.
• Demonstrated skills in debugging, problem solving, and data-driven decision making to ensure engineering excellence.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and technical mentorship within engineering teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
