News Reporter, freelance
Day rate: $220
We are looking for freelance News Reporters to join our team in researching, writing and publishing compelling news stories for digital audiences. The role requires exercising independent judgment and creative discretion in determining newsworthiness, story structure, tone, and content presentation to engage and inform readers.
The role requires a high degree of original thought, editorial decision-making, and creative execution.

About the role
You will be part of the general news team and responsible for producing high-quality reporting under the guidance of news editors while exercising significant autonomy in story selection and development.
With strong interview, investigative and storytelling skills, you will be able to write quickly and accurately with creative passion and perform under tight deadlines.
This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.
Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, including evenings and weekends, and successful candidates will be required to be flexible around team availability and as a result of current news affairs, and so we therefore require a level of flexibility in this role.
Who we are looking for
You will have gained professional experience at a national or major regional publication and be able to demonstrate the ability to craft original, compelling narratives across a range of news topics from hard news to digital-first, shareable content.
A good understanding of laws around journalism, including libel, copyright and privacy considerations is a must, as is a degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field.
