Job Title: Upper School Choir Teacher 

Job Description  

The Upper School Choir Teacher inspires students to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for music while guiding students in their musical development. This teacher will lead with creativity, enthusiasm, and vision, elevating the Choral program. In addition to classroom instruction, the Upper School Choir Teacher plays piano to accompany Upper School Chapel and partners closely with the Chaplain to plan and lead worship music, encouraging students to use their musical gifts in both service and celebration. This position is part of the school-wide Fine Arts Department and collaborates with Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School Fine Arts faculty to ensure program alignment, shared goals, and a cohesive artistic experience across divisions. 

Job Responsibilities 

• Develop and implement lesson plans that align with instructional goals and support students at a range of choral experience levels. 

• Create a learning environment that emphasizes skill development, artistic expression, and confidence. 

• Prepare and direct student performances throughout the year, including programs, holiday events, and special ceremonies. 

• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment. 

• Serve as an active member of the Fine Arts Department, attending department meetings, collaborating across divisions, and contributing to school-wide arts initiatives. 

• Communicate effectively with families and colleagues about student participation and upcoming events. 

• Assess individual student strengths and areas for growth, providing regular feedback. 

• Communicate clearly and professionally with students and parents about course content, expectations, and student progress. 

• Participate in parent conferences and student check-ins as needed. 

• Serve on school committees and participate in broader school life. 

• Participate in school-wide events, Chapel, faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development opportunities. 

• Uphold school rules and policies with consistency and clear expectations. 

• Attend The Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and performance opportunities as assigned.  

• Serves as an advisor to students, guiding students in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal development and acting as primary liaison to parents/guardians. 

Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 

• Teaching certification and relevant teaching experience. 

• 3–5 years of experience teaching upper-aged students preferred. 

• Proficiency in piano is required (ability to accompany Chapel and student performances daily). 

• Proficiency in choral direction and vocal coaching. 

• Knowledge of music theory, rhythm, movement, and performance-based learning 

• Strong communication, leadership, and conducting skills. 

• Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. 

• Commitment to the school's mission and values.
