Head of Underwriting

Comity is looking for a Head of Underwriting to help shape and execute our credit underwriting strategy tailored to energy market participants. You'll be involved in the underwriting process end to end —from building foundational workflows to informing the tools that enable scale. In this role, you will:

• design: help architect a growth-ready underwriting operation tailored to the dynamics of energy markets

• execute: underwrite energy market participants and assign default probability distributions to support pricing and structuring of performance-based products

• scale: provide underwriting insights to our software engineers to build an AI-powered platform to enable our business to scale efficiently

As an early hire in this role, you’ll have broad impact over our path to scale.

• You have 7-12 years of experience as an underwriter with demonstrated expertise in credit risk and a proven track record of establishing efficient underwriting operations that leverage data analytics and software in fast-scaling environments. A background in underwriting corporate loans, trade credit, or performance-based products is considered a plus.

• Thrive under ambiguity: You enjoy synthesizing a significant number of information threads to a well-structured and defended plan.

• Relentless: You aren’t discouraged by obstacles or the challenges of moving from 0 to 1.

• Highly analytical: You have a keen sense for how to break ambiguous problems into 'knowable' components, and you're adept at quickly navigating analytical question and answer pairs which obtain with one another. Proficiency with Python and one or more common analytical tools (SQL, Tableau, etc.) is preferred.

• Detail oriented: You have comfort and facility with the last few percent of accuracy, ensuring work products have zero defect.

• An excellent communicator: As well as solving problems, you can communicate your thinking to various stakeholder audiences who may have divergent points-of-view.

• Eager to learn: You are eager to learn and grow; you enjoy the pain of a steep learning curve.
