Ultrasound Technologist Requirements: 

• Minimum 1 year of ultrasound imaging experience post-graduation 

• Current ARDMS certification – RDMS (ideally in Ab or OB) 

• Valid Driver’s License 

• BLS/CPR Certification 

• Professionalism and strong interpersonal communication skills 

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently 

• Pass all necessary health requirements for hospital employment, including drug screen and background check 

• Comfort level with general abdominal, general OB & general vascular scans/procedures. 

• Ability to use mobile phone devices & applications 

Other Requirements: 

• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of imaging. 

• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 

• Must be able to act calmly and effectively in busy, stressful or emergency situations. 

• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing. 

• Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. 

Skills:  

• Ability to operate ultrasound equipment. 

• Ability to maintain quality control standards. 

• Ability to work independently with minimal to no supervision. 

• Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. 

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff at client facilities, management and peers. 

• Maintain the mental acuity, situational awareness, and decision-making ability necessary to safely and effectively perform all essential duties of the Ultrasound Sonographer position, including patient assessment, image acquisition, prioritization, and communication with the care team. 

• Demonstrate the physical capability to safely lift and move 30 pounds independently and to assist with patient positioning, transfer, and mobility activities as required to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations safely and effectively.  (see physical requirements) 

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with people in difficult, stressful situations. 

• Excellent communication skills. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Prolonged standing and walking while performing examinations and moving between patient rooms and departments. 

• Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and repositioning patients. 

• Occasional squatting, kneeling, and working in confined or awkward spaces. 

• Lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and ultrasound accessories. 

• Pushing and pulling ultrasound machines, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other medical equipment. 

• Assisting with patient transfers, positioning, and movement of extremities, including patients with limited mobility. 

• Frequent to constant use of hands, wrists, fingers, arms, shoulders, and neck for transducer manipulation, gripping, fine-motor tasks, and equipment controls. 

• Repetitive hand and upper-extremity movements, including probe rotation, angulation, pressure, measurements, and documentation. 

• Maintaining extended or elevated arm positions and static or awkward postures during examinations. 

• Continuous visual concentration and hand-eye coordination while operating equipment and monitoring ultrasound images. 

• Physical endurance to perform multiple examinations throughout the workday. 

• Ability to safely maneuver around patients, hospital beds, equipment, and other obstacles. 

 Responsibilities:

• Perform ultrasound diagnostic studies in accordance with accepted protocols. 

• Maintain professional demeanor and respond promptly and professionally to all work-related calls received. 

• Contact the assigned facility with estimated arrival time and arrive at the facility within prescribed timeframe 

• Follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment. 

• Maintain work areas in compliance with client’s standards. 

• Maintain accurate records, reports and files, as directed. 

• Document work processes, as required. 

• Perform other duties, as assigned.
