You will work closely with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams, assist with ultrasound-guided procedures, and contribute to a culture of quality, safety, and continuous learning. Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound and vascular imaging procedures, including carotid duplex, arterial and venous Doppler studies of upper and lower extremities, abdominal aorta duplex imaging, groin studies, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing.

  • Assess patients, review clinical histories, and correlate findings to ensure appropriate imaging studies are performed.

  • Obtain and evaluate high-quality diagnostic images, accurately document measurements and calculations, and prepare technical summaries for physician interpretation.

  • Recognize normal and abnormal findings, identify imaging artifacts, communicate urgent or significant findings, and seek guidance when necessary.

  • Educate patients regarding procedures, answer questions, and provide compassionate care while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and dignity during examinations.

  • Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures, including biopsies and other invasive exams, while maintaining sterile technique.

  • Complete and maintain accurate patient documentation, reports, charges, and records using PACS, RIS, and other hospital information systems.

  • Ensure successful image transmission and documentation within PACS and related imaging systems.

  • Adhere to department, regulatory, quality assurance, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.

  • Assist with patient positioning, transfers, and post-procedure monitoring as appropriate.

  • Maintain ultrasound equipment, probes, and related devices; assist with supply inventory, stocking, and evaluation of new equipment and techniques.

  • Participate in on-call coverage, staff meetings, continuing education activities, and departmental initiatives.

  • Support the education, training, and evaluation of students and less experienced staff.

  • Assist with departmental operations, including clerical responsibilities, workflow coordination, staffing support, and other duties within the ultrasound scope of practice to support patient care.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, including completion of an associate degree, diploma, or equivalent ultrasound-specific coursework required.

  • Specialized vascular ultrasound training from a vocational or technical program may be considered in combination with prior general ultrasound training.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current New Mexico Diagnostic Medical Sonographer License (DMS-NM) required; provisional or temporary licensure may be considered.

  • ARDMS registry eligible at time of hire.

  • Must obtain and maintain two (2) ARDMS registries within two (2) years of hire.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in general and vascular ultrasound preferred.
