POSITION SUMMARY:

The Transporter is responsible for providing non-emergency medical transportation services and essential support to homebound individuals in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes transporting eligible clients, delivering homebound meals, and conducting welfare checks through phone calls and in-person visits. The role also involves managing grocery, commodities, and food bank deliveries, as well as transporting medical supplies to ensure clients receive timely assistance.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide non-emergency medical transportation services to eligible clients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safe and timely transport of individuals to medical appointments and other necessary destinations.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and patience while assisting clients with disabilities, ensuring their comfort and dignity throughout the transportation process.
  • Deliver homebound meals to clients while adhering to dietary requirements and safety standards.
  • Conduct welfare checks through phone calls and in-person visits to assess the well-being of homebound individuals.
  • Assist with medication delivery services, ensuring proper handling and adherence to schedules.
  • Manage grocery and commodities pickups and deliveries for eligible clients.
  • Coordinate food bank deliveries to support clients facing food insecurity.
  • Transport medical supplies to homebound individuals to facilitate their healthcare needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation activities and client interactions.
  • Keep detailed vehicle logs related to mileage, inspections, and requests for maintenance as needed.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and operational protocols during transportation and deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Report any concerns or incidents promptly to supervisors.
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain the vehicle in clean and safe working condition, performing routine inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent driving skills with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor to provide support to homebound individuals.
  • Good organizational skills to manage schedules, deliveries, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Familiarity with local routes and traffic regulations.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and basic computer skills for logging activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weights for deliveries and assistance.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the varying needs of clients and changing circumstances.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare or social services preferred.
  • Previous experience in transportation, healthcare, or a similar support role is desirable.
  • Training in first aid and CPR is beneficial; certification may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for deliveries and assistance.
  • Dexterity to operate vehicle controls and perform vehicle inspections.
  • Stamina to perform tasks that may require standing, walking, or bending for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate various terrains and environments when assisting clients.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
  • Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
  • Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • All staff working for Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma Health Department must have the following vaccinations: Seasonal influenza, Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap), Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), and Varicella. Proof of previous vaccinations or a positive titer for these diseases is required.
