The role:
As a Transport Risk & Compliance Officer, you will play a critical role in keeping our nationwide delivery points safe, compliant, and running smoothly. You will review and analyse delivery and collection locations for HGVs and vans, ensuring practical safety standards are consistently met for all NEXT stores, third-party retailers, suppliers, and Regional Service Centres. Working closely with line managers, Health & Safety teams, Store/Area Managers, and our core, agency, and 3rd-party driver workforces, you will champion operational best practice and directly protect our people on the road and on site. NEXT provides thorough onboarding and ongoing team support to help you get fully up to speed with our systems and nationwide network.
- Contract & Location: Fixed Term 2 year, full-time national role with a flexible base location (requires flexibility to travel and stay away from home when needed).
What you’ll take on:
- Carry out detailed risk assessments for all HGV and van delivery and collection points, implementing practical changes to maintain safe working environments.
- Audit new store openings, trunking networks, and RSCs to guarantee proper access compliance and risk mitigation before operations start.
- Create clear, user-friendly risk assessment guides and deliver safety updates to driver workforces and management teams following route or location changes.
- Conduct regular site visits and proactive back-of-house audits across the entire network to assess changes and uphold standards.
- Work hand-in-hand with Health & Safety, Corporate H&S, and Transport teams to provide expert advice and drive best practice.
- Identify and report any equipment or system deficiencies to protect team safety, operational flow, and the environment.
What you’ll bring:
- A full, clean C+E Driving Licence combined with at least 2 years of practical experience as an HGV driver.
- Background as a Risk Assessor or H&S Advisor, supported by a strong working knowledge of HSE legislation and British Standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a genuine, approachable attitude and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organizational and planning skills to manage your workload independently, interpret data, and meet deadlines.
- Practical problem-solving skills, sharp attention to detail, and a calm approach under pressure.
- Full flexibility to travel nationally and stay away from home as required by the role.
- An IOSH membership or a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) is desirable.

Skills Required
- Full, clean C+E Driving Licence
- At least 2 years of practical HGV driving experience
